Trump hates Europe because the EU is powerful enough to stand up to him. The weak and isolated UK is low hanging fruit, a part of Europe he can attack with impunity because any retaliation will hurt us more than it hurts him.

But one that was mainly a rational state actor with a concert of allies across the globe who could rely on the US. Now its just a transactional power run by a mad man.
