I've noticed looking at this Wikipedia entry for holders of stewards of the Chiltern Hundreds that when David Davies had his resignation in 2008, he held the post for nearly a year so I presume that it is not a barrier to seeking re-election then. I guess that's my question answered.

The sole purpose of the continued existence of the archaic Stewardship of the Manor of Northstead and The Chiltern Hundreds is to facillitate the resignations of MPs. Crazily, MPs cannot ever resign, but have to automatically sack themselves by “seeking a paid office of the crown” - of which the Manor of Northstead and the Chiltern Hundreds are the only two remaining.

They get sacked whenever they want.
