I know of someone currently working on his doctorate - he's about to do his viva. Elsewhere, he said:

It’s already being used by people in what should be serious discussion pieces and books.

I know of two academics who have had to reject two peer reviews recently and one who reviewed a book which included some of the most awful AI generated images (and descriptions actually).

AI will have its place - I think it can be useful for data if you give it the right prompts and guidelines, potentially - but for historical writing and using it for historical images - easy pass for me.

Besides which, too many people are using it to just post absolute claptrap.
I no longer use Google as a search engine so I don't see the AI summaries any more: DuckDuckGo has Duck.ai but you can turn it off.

Burnham to seek cross-party consensus over urgent reforms to social care
Prime minister invites Badenoch and Davey – but not Farage – to discuss how to fix decades-old funding crisis
Burnham was the Health Secretary the last time this fell apart, with Cameron bolting out the door shouting "Labour Death Tax". In fairness, Jez did the same when May came up with a promising suggestion. So I don't hold out much hope now. Use your majority and get it done.

Badenoch can't be at the meeting becuase it's too short notice. Imagine her as PM. "Sorry, can that major incident that has just taken place and requires me to address the nation not be put back to a week Thursday?"
