It’s because such people don’t actually care if politicians are in it for themselves, as long as they also get a slice of what they want.

That slice might be some group or other you don’t like getting short shrift, or material gain in tax cuts that’ll favour you and so on. The idea someone might want to hold office just to do good doesn’t add up to them, because they would always want to know what’s in it for them?

The ultimate expression of this is, of course, Trump. Wholly corrupt and utterly disgusting, driven entirely by arrogance, greed and lust. And loved by Christian conservatives, who should obviously find him abhorrent if they even slightly believed what they claim to, because he also doesn’t like gays and foreigners.

Thel fash don't care about corruption or graft or sleaze. What they want is a politician who'll say what we're all thinking. If they do that they can fiddle away to their heart's content.
