It has been really funny watching the local branch of the Restore party implode. The branch launched at a posh hotel owned by a Spanish bloke who made his money out of selling Vodka based drinks. They probably had about 40 people at the launch event but by the time they started knocking on doors they were down to about 10 members and every social media pot since then has featured fewer and fewer members.
At the same time there is a bloke in town who calls himself a property developer but doesn't seem to do much developing. He bought a large former council headquarters about 5 years ago in Chesterfield which had planning permission to become residential accommodation. The local council were very supportive because the building had a large carpark and is close to the town centre,. But the developer got too greedy and submitted plans that were subsequently rejected so he has basically spent the last 5 years being a really nuisance. He has put huge Union flags on the front of the building and tried other silly publicity stunts when people stopped biting he then jumped on board the Restore bandwagon and headed off to Great Yarmouth campaigning for Rupert Lowe. He must have been a real prick because even Rupert Lowe took a dislike to him and subsequently banned him from Restore. Undeterred by constant rejection this bloke is still planning to stand as a candidate in the next general election. This means that we could end up with a Reform candidate, a Restore candidate and a bloke deemed too extreme for Restore. The sitting Labour MP must be rubbing his hands in glee.
