There's no real opposition to renewables over car parks, on warehouses, that sort of thing. Much greater opposition to very large solar farms, wind farms etc.

That's exactly my point, Nimbys won't complain that their view of ASDA's car park has been ruined, that is why, in order to halt solar, the fossil fuel industry (including the Unions) have to pile on political pressure to prevent those carparks being turned into solar farms. BECAUSE THE NIMBYS WON'T

There are numerous news articles about nimbys protesting against electric car charging points on their high streets. It's only a matter of time before they decide their view of the sky while sitting in their cars in sainsbury's car park mustn't be blocked by overhead solar panels.

They're all in favour of clean green energy production and non-polluting cars, just not here thank you very much.

According to Phil Moorhouse, Rosebank will generate 17 new jobs and if that isn't a good reason for Unite to oppose solar energy, I don't know what is!

It's Jackdaw, and the 17 jobs figure is likely bullshit, so surprised he quotes it.

Only 27 direct full-time jobs would be created by Jackdaw, one of the biggest gasfields remaining in the North Sea, according to an environmental impact assessment filed publicly by its owner, Adura, a joint venture between Shell and Norway’s Equinor.

The document states: “Over the lifetime of the field there would be a consistent level of employment averaging at nearly 500 jobs a year in direct, indirect and induced employment – this includes 273 direct jobs which exist on the Shearwater host installation and [an] additional 27 Jackdaw-specific jobs.”

And anyway, even if there were zero jobs, the gas extracted will be taxed at 78%. We might as well have that rather than Qatar.

Where is this pressure from fossil fuel companies? As far as I can tell you're saying they've successfully stopped it happening, when the amounts are going to be much smaller than the big solar projects the government is routinely approving. If this is so, then they're massively misdirecting their lobbying efforts. The nimbies are mostly failing (though I see a big chunk of a power line in East Anglia will now be 1/3 buried when it needn't have been). The local councils of course are still implacably opposed. Hopefully Burnham learns that there's no point bothering with these people.

Here's the reason the Government doesn't prioritize "rooftop" solar. Costs a lot more.
