The places where Reform do best will certainly miss the money at aggregate level if benefits are slashed. But the Reform voters are not necessarily the people who would personally lose money.

You can see why Reform do this stuff from a political point of view. It’s what US Republicans do very successfully. You frame it as money going to the lazy and black, or Muslim, as it would be here. Lots of the affected whites don’t vote and the blacks don’t vote for them.

Aside from basically killing the welfare state, I don't know where to start with this spectacular piece of idoitic one-dimensional fart statement...

These dickheads have got nearly 3 years worth of rope to hang themselves. Unless they shut up then more and more people will see them for the arseholes they are.

And if it means that English wine and sparkling wine gets better and better, fantastic. That means we can take on the French – fantastic.

Has Tice ever been to Champagne region or checked out its latitude on a map? Its not a hot region, fucking idiot.

The party of free speech have suspended Tim Montgomerie for being critical of Zia Yusuf and Farage.

I understand that Tim Montgomerie is very popular with the type of voter Reform need to attract if they are to grow their vote share so, I for one, am very glad they've suspended him.

Montgomerie had his card marked last week criticising Farage's tetchy by-election speech. Certainly wasn't batting for the team.

Prue Leith's spawn Danny Kruger got the kid glove treatment on BBC breakfast a couple of days ago, following Reform's announcement that nobody except English residents with a tatty St George's flag prominent on their property (it might not have been that specific but it was basically that) will qualify for benefits if they get in. He reminded me very much of Zia Yusuf, both have an emotionless, anhedonic persona about them that triggers a "bet he's a right laugh at parties" thought.

Montgomerie apparently has cerebral palsy, which I've wondered about for a while but hadn't previously seen confirmation of, so there is some speculation as to whether his suspension from Reform may be related to criticism of Jenrick and Yusuf's clod-hopping announcements about Reform going after people with disabilities like his who need to claim benefits.

May not be the case . I think it is stretching credibility slightly to attribute even a modicum of compassion to someone like Montgomerie.

This whole thing is bollocks, based on people not understanding that lots of people have leave to remain, have lived here for many years but aren't citizens. Calling them "foreign nationals" may be literally true, but it's not what most people understand by the phrase.

You beat me to it.

All margin for error stuff, but however ridiculous the by-election v Binface was, it did provide Farage with a stage for his greatest hits. And of course a small rise in support isn't by any means incompatible with rallying tactical support against you. I've always felt that Farage will get killed by tactical voting overall, and I'm not sure why people think guaranteeing him a load of PR seats with which he might form a coalition with Badenoch is brilliant tactical masterplan.

Reform councillor who said she ‘received no training’ sent resignation letter to wrong council

A Reform UK councillor who said she “received no training” has withdrawn her resignation after sending her letter to the wrong council.

Newcastle-under-Lyme borough councillor Christine Duffy wrote in her resignation letter on 4 August that she had decided to step down from her position as she had received “very little or no training for this role”.

But after having sent the letter to Kidsgrove Town Council, rather than Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, she changed her mind about quitting.

Electoral Commission rules stated a councillor cannot withdraw their resignation once it has been received by the authority.

But Ms Duffy claimed she withdrew her resignation before the letter had been received by the correct council officer.
