You're asking many of them to reach beyond their abilities.

My wish - since we're doing wishes:
That the 20 coppers who reluctantly guard 5 noisy fash would all down tools for a simultaneous meal break.

(A major nearby incident might also divert them).

Great article on this issue in the culture wars, specifically to do with academia and critical theory: https://defector.com/humanists-have-done-nothing-wrong

The link to your observation? The great 'dumbing down', the 'problem these days' etc is... not being too generous with grades. It's not a fear of 'debate'. It's not 'evil establishment hates the west'.

It's a wilful ignorance, and/or an utter incapacity to engage with the substance of a matter. The people who claim critical theory etc etc, as being worthless nonsense, that it trains the youth to 'hate their country', are merely the 'intellectual' arm of the great dumbing down movement. Critical theory is one way to analyse and understand the world. Thinking for 5 seconds about the status of Irish people in Britain is another. Both are too much for this movement, whether the participants in it are 'clever' or just utterly stupid.

Also, dislike =/= disagreement. No, I'm not saying that your latest work is unfunny because it or you offends me; I'm saying so because it's crap.

So often the conservative culture war argument is predicated on their foes being weak, censorious, airy-fairy wimps. See the blue haired Stalinist stereotypes.

When there's nothing flimsier, weaker and less rigorous than total lack of engagement with substance, and thinking attention-seeking is the height of human activity: 'yah boo i made you look, bet that shocked you didn't it four-eyes'

Maybe about a couple of dozen times over the last few months I've seen isolated comments on Instagram posts and You Tube uploads (including a non-political vid) from people saying to vote Restore. The comments are always just one sentence and non-abusive and they never engage when challenged in a reply. I didn't think anything of it at first but they are all just so similar and short. Reform voters in any comments section always have to tell everyone why they think the way they do, they are never calm and to the point like these, so why would Restore voters be any different. Something just doesn't chime. It's all good though, what better way to ensure Reform don't win the next election than have a party even more to the right to siphon their votes. I don't want them becoming too popular though, as the danger then is they kiss and make up and form an axis of evil coalition in event of a hung Parliament. So, Restore to become just a touch more popular to siphon a worthwhile amount of Reform votes, but not too popular, just in the Goldilocks zone would be ideal.

That evil old prick Rupert Lowe's making a huge packet off Musk by using his account to send out a daily barrage of hate mail Tweets. He does declare it so isn’t breaking any rules (which haven't caught up with the digital age). Which weakens Farage's whining that the establishment are picking on me and he hasn't broken any rules by taking secret donations.
