This does not surprise me at all

The only climate scientist teaching at West Point, the US army’s military academy, was fired after he resisted an order to stop teaching about the human causes of the climate emergency, a lawsuit claims.

Dr Adam Kalkstein, a civilian professor of geography at the New York institution, was terminated after the spring semester this year, six months after a testy meeting with Brig Gen Shane Reeves, then dean of West Point’s academic board, the court filing said.

According to Kalkstein, who taught army cadets there for 17 years, he told the dean at a November 2025 meeting that an order to cut from the curriculum content about the human causes of climate change was immoral and potentially illegal...

He has also cheered on ICE raids, writing on X last year: "Total legal immunity for ICE agents when they're on duty."

He posted in 2025: "We have got to deport millions and millions of people. Without that, nothing else matters."

Yiannopoulos also advocated on social media for "on the spot deportation for anyone who can't prove they are in the US legally".

The downside is:

One more insufferable cunt reporting for duty in Tufton Street.

Seriously - can't someone just do a re-enactment of the Piazzale Loreto with the entire Trump administration (and his family)?

This is something even by his standard. He's threatening the Fed Chair that he'll stop trading with countries who have a trade surplus with the US if the Fed doesn't lower interest rates. One reason it can't is.... all this trade war inflating prices.

The post hasn't been deleted, it's a temporary fault with Bluesky.

So he wants to slash the value of the Dollar to boost exports while banning imports to control inflation. Is Maduro advising him? Think I read this idea in Militant 40 years ago.

Don't see Burnham in much of a hurry to meet Trump, what's the point? Trump’s an incoherent babbling mess even by his standards.

If you buy from America, he hates you, because you're not paying enough.

If you sell to America, he hates you, because you're ripping America off.

If you have nothing to do with America, he hates you for not showing enough respect.

Face it, he hates you.

Maybe "Good Socialist" Chris Williamson is, he was still in the bunker last time I checked. I wondered how he was doing generally, and here we are. You might think that you saw Russia invade Ukraine, but what you were actually watching was a proxy war contrived by "amoral" arms industry people. And somebody did a song about war once, so Chris doesn't have to speak to any Ukrainians.

War, huh? What is it good for? Well, ridding Europe of fascist dictators comes to mind.

Jez believes this stuff too, though while he was Labour leader he had to pretend to be grown up and allow at least that the Second World War wasn't without some just cause. Since he's been able to speak freely he's retreated to stuff like "why don't we miss out war and go straight for the peace?". Which is where he was before he became Labour leader. This is a particularly egregious effort, where he chucks about a dozen kitchen sinks at the question.

Ukrainians, lots of them are Nazis. Demonstrations don't represent all Ukrainians, so Western leaders shouldn't support them (what?). Anyway, Ukraine's borders "ebb and flow with history" (or with Russiainvading them). Russia is encircled (how does Israel feel?)

The temerity of Warsaw Pact countries to elect their own governments and join the imperialist expansionist NATO.
Still, the hypocrisy of the West remains unbelievable. NATO has sought to expand since the end of the cold war. It has increased its military capability and expenditure. It operates way beyond its original 1948 area and its attempt to encircle Russia is one of the big threats of our time.

He always phrases it like that, like someone in NATO head office just pushed some flags about on a map. Or perhaps it was Catherine Ashton of the sinister EU. Any EU members have experience of recent Russian occupation at all, Jez? And of those only the Baltic Three actually border Russia. Some encircling, unless you regard those other ex-Soviet places as basically Russia anyway.

We are at least spared Jez cited any old pop songs, like Chris Williamson, I suppose.

Jez doesn't seem to be aware of the fact that there are plenty of neo-nazis in Russia, not to mention there were plenty of Russians who, erm, collaborated with the Nazis.

Putin's Russian nationalism taps into "we beat the Nazis", like a bunch of English football hooligans singing about winning the war, except with the actual Russian national armed forces involved instead of the sort of people once infiltrated by Donal Macintyre.

So framing Ukrainians as Nazis fits in with all that.

Anyway, apologies for the Chris Williamson-Jez diversion.

How long before the new Fed Chair gets sacked? Skim reading from when Jerome Powell was in the firing line, it seems like the consensus was "it's possible but the wouldn't because of the market reaction". That sounds optimistic in the current climate.

Russian opposition to Nazism isn't rooted in disgust at antisemitism, or even their warmongering and aggression. It's based squarely on Hitler having the temerity to cross into the Motherland uninvited.
