When it's not French railways or classic/'modern classic' car videos, I tend to find myself looking at videos posted by LBC.

Needless to say, the first two are free of the sort of comments that get me down. Yes, I know I shouldn't be looking at the third.

Talking of which, I spend too long reading Bluesky comments on the British Government by liberal Americans. One such, having said lots of interesting stuff about America, said absurdly that our failed government is “what Democrat centrists want”. Massive tax rises to pay for public services (not least on our equivalent of their totemic “Medicare for All) workers rights, big minimum wage increases- these people would be extremely happy with any of that in the US.

But I guess when you get your info on Britain from the sillier end of Bluesky, it’s easy to overlook this stuff and think that everyone in Britain thinks Starmer was too rightwing.

If you want to see nicer Americans, there are lots who have YouTube channels of watch a longs to well known British TV programmes. I find these charming.

Okay. After the last couple of days at work and receiving destroyed stuff in the post (plus a fine from HMRC) this morning I am depressed so it's bound to make me despondent: I just feel that we're losing the fight against a very well-funded and organised far-Right and very soon this country will just look like the USA, filled with hate and the full-blooded worship of Mammon.

A mate of mine is thinking of buying a château in France, near Thionville: lucky devil.

If you watch Chateau DIY on Channel 4 as Mrs L is at present, well binge wtaching would be more accurate, you can get some tasty sized places for around the cost of a 3 bed semi in the better parts of Slough.

Did notice this tax reduction promise cutting through on the doorstep in the GE. People like free money and will invent something in their head to pay for it without reducing crucial public spending, 'stop the boats, whatabout MP expenses?, stop paying for bureaucrats, make benefit scroungers get jobs...'

Nothing's changed in my browser settings, nor has anything changed with uBlock Origin; the browser's not even been updated. Same in both Firefox and Edge. Nor does it show up in Opera on Android.

Jenrick claims that he will resign if he doesn't deliver tax cuts in the first 100 days but this is utter bollox. You can't give out tax cuts unless you have achieved so big savings to balance the books. Making civil servants redundant will take a minimum of 3 months and then there will probably no actual savings for another 12th months once you allow for redundancy payments. Even cutting benefits won't achieve immediate savings because transitional payments are usually made to soften the blow. They keep going on about scrapping net zero contracts but these contracts will all have big penalty clauses built in for early termination.
