The work of my team in the Preparing for Government unit is focused on the painstaking, unglamorous mechanics of institutional restoration. We will overhaul the Civil Service and ministerial code, establishing clear lines of accountability, and restoring the actual, rather than merely formal, responsibility of ministers for policy delivery. We will dismantle the Cabinet Office, the bloated centre where executive decision making goes to die. Reform rewriting the ministerial code. What could go wrong?

What does "actual rather than formal responsibility" mean? On recent evidence, it involves sacking underlings and the leader saying "I wasn't even listening, nothing to do with me".

Might be worth splitting the Cabinet Secretary job, but why is it "conflicted"? Why should being an effective "CEO' be in conflict with following correct process? It isn't at a FTSE 100 company.

And the Cabinet Office is a weird target here. Its job is to have a broad view across government, why would you seek to take that away? Of all parties, Reform need something like that. with their double life as authoritarians and libertarians.

Councillor first to defect from Reform to Labour

The heckler who was assaulted at Reform's conference was invited to stand as a councillor - this after she'd heckled last year's conference. To date she still has her Reform membership card.
But Reform have a very thorough and effective vetting process, don'cha know.

I saw a voxpop outside Reform's conference, one guy said he'd switched to Reform because he was fed up with the Tories and Labour. So far, so unremarkable, I've heard that plenty of times but what he said next did surprise me.

In reference to Reform's current meltdown, he was asked if he'd consider voting for anybody else, to which he replied LibDems or Greens (providing they ditch Polanski) and was quite complimentary about both parties' policies.

Certainly challenged my bias - I was waiting for him to say Restore - but how the fuck does that work?
I mean, I have my issues with the LibDems and definitely with the Greens but I'd vote for either all day long if the only alternative was Reform.

The most astonishing thing about that survey is not that 16% of people don't change their shreddies everyday but that 16% are prepared to admit it to a pollster - I presume the actual number is much higher.
