There's a big difference between wishing something was done, and going out and doing it.

Museum staff? Once again, racists show they are intellectually subnormal.

A lifeboat museum says it has been forced to close after its volunteers were targeted by anti-migrant protesters.

Poole Old Lifeboat Museum said it made the decision after several incidents of "protesters verbally assaulting our volunteers".

Protesters gathered in the Dorset town after about 140 migrants arrived in a single dinghy that had crossed the English Channel, prompting a major anti-migrant demonstration in Portsmouth on Sunday...

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, RNLI vice-president Sir Robin Knox-Johnston said: "Like many supporters of the RNLI, I am very angry about it because they are picking on the wrong people.

"These are volunteers who risk their lives to go out and save anyone at sea.

"What people don't seem to understand is the RNLI don't go out looking for people – they only go out when specifically asked by the Coastguard, whose job is safety of life at sea - regardless of nationality.

"They are doing their job – they are saying there are people whose lives are in danger – RNLI please can you send a boat and remove the risk.

"If you want this to stop the government have got to stop it – but picking on RNLI crews who are doing the job they are trained to do is frankly quite disgraceful."
Can the news media please stop calling these cunts "demonstrators" and instead use the more accurate term "thick racist thugs"?

An RNLI spokesperson said: ‘We’ve seen a significant increase in the number of donations we have received this week, and we’ve welcomed a number of new supporters to our charity.

“As always, we’re so grateful for the support we receive from our amazing supporters, without them we would not be able to deliver our vital lifesaving service. Sadly, we have also been contacted by a number of supporters and members of the public who have informed us that they wish to withdraw their support in recent days.
That last part, so people know they are volunteers rescuing people at sea as they were signed up members, watched the thuggery and thought "good on ya" to the racists.

Not sure if this belongs here or in the Gender Identity thread.

One of the Patriot Platform protesters wore a face covering defying the ban but wasn't arrested because she told police she identifies as a Muslim woman. Following this, I suspect more will follow suit.

How long before we merge this thread and the BBC one.

Leading this Sunday with a "Jenrick says" headline.

Reform's £72m donations 'entirely in line with law', Jenrick says

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckgwkeg1vy8o
Robert Jenrick has said Reform UK believes £72m of donations it has received from two cryptocurrency billionaires are "entirely in line with the law".

The party's economic spokesman told the BBC that he does not expect that it will have to return any of the money from Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne, who are both British and have spent time living overseas.

Dear BBC - Stop parroting Reform press releases - give us some fucking news, or fuck off.

It is news.
Problem is, Jenrick is correct on this one. there's currently no cap on donations from British citizens. Delo purposely frontloaded his donation to prevent any future change in the law.
We may not like that fact but what's needed is a change in the law and pressure from an informed and enraged public will help steer Burnham, demanding the BBC don't talk about it doesn't help at all.

FFS. Between potentially lethally genocidal AI bots, obscenely wealthy “tech bros” planning to evacuate a select few (including themselves, of course) to elsewhere in the solar system, and catastrophic climate change picking up the pace and frying us all every summer and flooding us out every autumn, let’s be frank, things ain’t looking that rosy for humanity’s future. Don’t read Naomi Klein’s article if you want to avoid existential despair.

Almost makes me happy to be approaching (at 67) the fag-end of my time on the planet.
