The former Europhile MEP Vicky Ford was successfully reprogrammed in the Johnson years. There was a time local Conservative associations would see central interference of candidates as blasphemy. I guess they're now just mainly a skeleton staff of Brexit nutters.

Usual dreadful performance.
Badenoch claims the government will spend £35bn giving away British territory.
Government will lease a strategic base for 99 years. And £35bn is bollocks. In terms of today's cost, it will remain about £100m a year,

Having identified the massive issue of principle that is opposing sanctions against the Occupied Territories yesterday, Kemi didn't even mention the issue today. While lots of voters don't have a view, a majority of all parties' voters (apart from Reform) support the sanctions. But doubtless her Twitter feed is strongly against.

No wonder she was arsing about with the Chagos Islands again.

So nearly half the electorate support parties that believe the richest aren't rich enough and want to give them more money and assets.

Make the people think they'd be better off if it wasn't for those below them and you'll never lose an election.

Even if you're an advocate of new right people's capitalism (big in the 80s, kids) abolishing inheritance tax is a dumb non starter. The wealthiest will end up accruing everything like Russia and they'll be no economic middle classes. Which is already the direction of travel.

This is absolutely mad. We've already had her abolishing stamp duty, which in fairness is a bad tax, but her solution is just a big freebie to people selling big houses who just raise the price to make up for there being no stamps duty. What's next? Corporation Tax?

People don't like the idea of paying tax when they're dead, as they see it, but I think there's a good chance that the policy falls apart in an election campaign when people see who benefits from it.

You bet. Who are Kemi's sage economic advisors, Minford and that Jessop plonker from the IEA?

Andrew Griffith, the actual Shadow Chancellor, is an absolute headbanger, maybe he and Kemi have cooked this up together. Mel Stride probably he thought he'd done a decent job in coming up with implausible tax and spending cuts for the base, but Griffith will take it to another level.

Actually, you were nearly right.

Dr Arthur Laffer is right. Britain is taxing itself to death under Labour.
He’s warned for years that taxes can become so punitive they reduce revenues.
My Party has a plan to cut spending so we can lower taxes and get Britain working.
Sadly the sentence "we'll therefore abolish the pensions triple lock" didn't follow.

Of course, nobody has ever believed that taxes can rise and rise without revenue falling at some point. The argument is always where that point is. Kemi's heavyweight analysis is nah nah, whatever the level Labour have raised them to. Maybe she can share her analysis with the OBR who score tax rises and the effect on revenue? Because while taxes can be sub optimal (raising employers NI for instance, rather than income tax or employee NI) it's rare that cutting them raises revenue.
