I see Tice has been out doing media interviews and trying to stonewall it that the crypto-billionaires’ donations are both just fine as far as the existing legislation around political parties are concerned - which is of course true, if somewhat regrettable. He has also been trying to bluff it, not totally successfully, that he thinks they will both be legit according to the future provisions of the legislation currently making its way through parliament onto the statute book.

He knows that this is just not true. The Representation of the People Bill 2026: Political funding is based on the findings of the independent report published by Phillip Rycroft in March of this year, and its provisions in respect of political donations from overseas donors will take effect, retrospectively, from the date of publication of Rycroft’s report. So it is quite likely to be applicable to the donations from Delo and Harbourne. Tellingly, neither Tice nor Farage have been able (or willing) to say precisely when Delo & Harbourne (very recently) became resident in the UK again - something that will be material to whether their donations are legit or not.

So I reckon they are both whistling in the dark. They’re going to have to give quite a lot of that 72 million knicker back when the legislation hits the statute book, and they know it. Tice has even been blathering on and blustering about vindictive and jealous socialists.

I think Delo said his original intention was to bung Reform a million quid every month between now and the next election, which could be 36 months away, but that he had decided to donate 36 months’ worth in one go, explicitly to get around (or so he thought) the legislation.
