A case of where once again, the technology of Star Trek becomes a reality:

Trial begins of needle-free Covid vaccine targeting new variants

Also:

The vaccine, DIOS-CoVax, uses different technology to fight the disease which could provide much broader protection against Covid variants and other coronaviruses, he said.

"It's vital that we continue to develop new generation vaccine candidates ready to help keep us safe from the next virus threats," he added.

"It is the first step towards a universal coronavirus vaccine we are developing, protecting us not just from Covid-19 variants but from future coronaviruses."

Current Covid-19 vaccines use genes taken from the virus spike protein to encode antigens, which causes the immune system to produce antibodies.

This new vaccine uses predictive methods to mimic the wider family of coronavirus antigens that researchers hope will give more protection.

If what I'm hearing on the speaking wireless is right the government's handling of Covid measures is a fucking shambles, with PCR tests being unavailable on the .gov website, pharmacists and other places running out of LFTs, lack of spaces at walk-in jab centres, drive-in PCR centres...

Once again, the responsible adult in No 10 has made an announcement without ensuring the logistics are in place to handle the demand he's created.

I'd like to see this cunt forced to account for himself in the International Court in The Hague.

Not. A. Chance.

He'll probably get a 'K' out of it instead.

Luckily I got a brace of boxes of LFTs from the chemists yesterday: these are the two nostrils/no tonsils type so now I can double the sneezing but avoid the retching.

Seems LFT’s go on overnight, I was up watching for no particular reason the NFL (I don’t even understand it but couldn’t sleep), anyhow I thought I’d try myself and I got some, this was around 3am so I do wonder if they put a new batch up at 12/1am.

Just had a text message from my GP practice; my diabetic review appointment on Christmas Eve has been cancelled "due to unforeseen circumstances" and I've been asked to re-book after the end of January.

Now, is it in any way related to last Sunday's announcement?

I suspect he keeps seeing headlines about Omicron's purported "increased transmissibility, decreased severity" and thinking that he jolly well doesn't have to do a jot. Which makes his "stringent measures" all the more careless and ill thought out even if that does become true of Omicron.

When did we first start hearing about this variant of concern? Last week of November? Admittedly not a great deal of preparation time but something could have been managed by now. It looks like we're on a course for another cancelled Christmas.

That doesn't include the two tellers.

Problem is now though, if new restrictions become necessary by the end of the week, and let's face it, that looks more than likely, will they be brought in for the health and well being of us all, or will he just chicken out to avoid the aggro?

If an unvaccinated person wants to get in a nightclub or other event they will. They just need to get a vaccinated acquaintance to send them a screenshot or PDF of their vaccination status. How is a bouncer going to know that 20 year old unvaccinated Joe Bloggs in front of them isn't the 20 year old vaccinated John Smith on the covid pass they are looking at?
