Well don’t they only need a negative lateral flow test? So all they need to do is get one type the code in and say negative.

End of the day I feel more strongly on the vaccine for health workers than the Covid pass.

Meanwhile, I put up with gagging and sneezing - and taking my temperature daily - as a condition of employment (just had to do a LFT for tomorrow and will have to do another one tomorrow night/Thursday morning).

Surely the Covid pass will need to be presented in tandem with formal ID such as a driving license or one of those cards which the kids use if they want to go on the piss. That's the way it works here and any host who doesn't verify your pass is in for a €25,000 fine.

Scan, scan, bleep-it's all over in seconds. And, everyone feels a lot safer. And, our numbers are currently on the way down again.

In other news, I got a red flag from my phone app this evening, saying that I had been in close proximity to a carrier this time last week. I imagine that it will have been a supermarket queue or similar, because we are not going out at the moment and I didn't have any business meetings.

Also, having been tested (negative) yesterday, I am not overly concerned, but will seek out another test in the morning.

Dunno about anyone else here, but I am fucking terrified.

Mate who may have had it says it was no worse than a bad cold - but he has normal health.

The local pharmacy has announced on FB that they have no lateral flow tests. They are ordering daily but none are arriving.

Just as well I brought two packs home from work last Friday then.

Mrs Abernathy spent yesterday morning comforting a friend who had lost her 75 year old mother to the Omicron variant at the weekend. Her mum had also been "jabbed up to the eyeballs", and barely left her house in these pandemic times.

So, good luck to Jenni Murray.

The new restrictions to French travel may have scuppered No3 son's family plans to go their place in the Alps for Christmas. I think he'll try to get away before the new restrictions come in, but I'm not sure he will make it.

Mrs A and I discussed Christmas last night, and like last year we are going into lockdown.

Another 88k new cases today.

As Edmund Blackadder once said - I believe the term rhymes with "clucking bell"

Reading on Twitter that a significant number of those getting vaxxed today are getting their first dose. Which, if true, is good.

Trouble is, with the porcine haystack's promise on Sunday people locally are having trouble booking their second shots because 1) they have to be the same stuff as the first, and 2) nearly all of the walk-in centres have switched to saying booster only.

It's an absolute clusterfuck.

Edit

I've just remembered the plight of a mate on a cycling forum. He's desperate for his second jab. The NHS app says he can get one at a place that's only 17 miles away. The NHS app gives distances in a straight line with no accounting for geography. He lives in North Kent. The walk-in centre is in Essex, nearly 60 miles away by road. How many other people are caught by this stupidity?

Obviously assuming Omicron will be held up at the Severn Bridge.
And Offa's Dyke..

It's the best they've got though after dishonest Alexander rejected any work on a four nation solution.

Chris Whitty who, let's not forget, was attacked in a London park back in the summer by fans of this disastrous charlatan prime minister, is now under attack for giving his professional opinion at a press conference to which he was invited.

Aside from wondering how the hell the country has allowed itself to become so debased, he would do well to chuck it and sue for constructive dismissal. Of course he won't, he is far too professional for that.

That would be Professor Chris Whitty, CB FRCP FFPH FMedSci
Chief Medical Officer for England.
Chief Medical adviser to the UK government.
Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) to the Department of Health and Social Care and Head of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) from 2016 to 2021
Acting Government Chief Scientific Adviser from 2017 to 2018
Gresham Professor of Physic since 2018
Onetime consultant physician at University College London Hospitals
Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences

What does he know?

Joyce (not Joy) Morrissey is an American with a basic education at an American church college and a dodgy degree which contains elements about European Social Policies from the LSE. What the actual degree is, not disclosed.

I had some gimboid on Twitter tell me on Twitter that the reason that they, and those who voted against the measures knew better than Chris Whitty with all his qualifications, was because they had "life qualifications".

"There's been a terrible accident! We need medical help! Someone call Sir Richard Drax immediately!"
