That's good news Kev, but I'd still test for the next couple of days just to be sure.

(I've just done one of the new nostril-only tests and it has come back negative, so I can go out for lunch now).

The BBC 'live' page says that hospitalisations are now rising.

See https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/s ... -activity/ and selected the spreadsheet for "weekly admissions and beds". You can drill down to your local trust.

In the last fortnight London and East Anglia has seen the biggest increase - yet in some parts of the country they've fallen or remained static.

Oh, I'm doing it daily tbh. Christmas week is scheduled to be spent with my 74 year old mother who lives in sheltered housing. I can't take the risk to do otherwise.

Excellent. See, I told you that you were better than the twunts in power - you are a responsible human being.

I think - and sincerely hope - that enough of the population in this country has now finally woken up to Johnson and his lies and are already listening to people qualified to talk about this (Whitty/Van Tam et al) instead - and they are limiting their exposure to others, masking up and testing regularly. With luck, the sensible will get through this, leaving the libertarian twats and thickos to bear the brunt of it. I pity the NHS staff who have to deal with those though.

Stricter rules being brought in Scotland. Edinburgh Hogmannay cancelled, football behind closed doors.

Seb Payne of the FT tweeting no change in guidance due to be announced today saying he has been told that they are in a holding pattern.

Prediction: Johnson demands a message be broadcast at 3pm Christmas Day, shoving poor old Brenda out of the way, and telling us that you can't travel after 12:01am Boxing Day, hoping the populace will be in too much of a post-dinner stupor to care for a few hours, at which point there will bedlam.

The Sun (yes, I know) claiming that Johnson will announce his intentions for Christmas restrictions in the next 48 hours.

I'm due to leave for the family in 49.

Right.

With the in-laws on Christmas day. Good thing I'm likely to get new pants and socks.

No new restrictions before Christmas. On one hand, there's a little bit more clarity, but thats still not going to stop us walking on eggshells.

If he's got this wrong, history will damn him more than any Prime Minister before him.

Looking at the Covid stats map today, now with added black to represent 1600+/100k and I find the area around Television Centre is at 1827/100k.

That is frightening; it equates to 1 in 55 having Covid in the area.

I can only conclude that he doesn't care how many people die. He just wants his Churchill on the balcony moment, quick tear for the tragic but necessary casualties, and take up the Dukedom his hero rejected.

His defence is nothing but "we did the best we could", as if we will all forget the refusal to take a collegiate approach or to act decisively and quickly. Just fuck him and his rancid coterie.

Moment on the balcony, you say?
Further to our long-standing advice for people to work from home wherever possible, from Monday this will now be a legal requirement to work from home unless there is a reasonable excuse not to.

"We expect employers to take all reasonable steps to facilitate home working and provide employees with the support they need.
If the employer doesn't do this *you* get fined as well.

And how will this be enforced? Will every workplace in the country be visited by coppers to check that the only people there are there through absolute necessity?

Another load of bollocks from a government that has plenty of bollocks to spare. Expect more of this unenforceable shite. After all, making it the responsibility of the public is better than making hard decisions and taking responsibility yourself.

Small thing that will be forgotten to be honest, though he will be 71 so I doubt he will be looking for re-election.

I assume Vaughan Gething will make a move before then

Just had the news that #1 son's partner has tested positive, so the Christmas at theirs that Spike and I had been planning the tests schedule for is off.

Very sad. Son won't see his daughters over Christmas, partner is ill (not badly, but not pleasant) and her mother - who lost her husband in the summer - has come over from Spain and is now stuck. We won't see anyone for the second year running. I suspect ex-wife had plans to go off with her boyfriend, so the girls may be stuck with their other grandparents, whom Spike regards with contempt. Merry Christmas.

This is all because partner's employers insisted that they work from the office when she could have been working from home. Public transport, social mixing...
