What have cigarettes got to do with it?

Did I hear correctly that he had a warm-up act?

Not a single mention by Sunak of his government's 13 year record in government. Trying to portray himself as "the change".

Utter bollocks, of course.

Next week, Labour will emphatically remind the electorate, with a renewed vigour, of those 13 years of relentless damage, corruption, lies, and incompetence. But it will also set out an urgent vision for the future that will destroy Sunak's fraudulent claim to be the change Britain needs.

And all Labour has to do is get it past a relentlessly hostile media and into people's skulls.

In a nutshell in 70 years time there will be scenarios whereby an 87 year old is told they are too young to buy fags by one year. They want to raise the age of buying them by one year every year. I don't think they've thought through the legality of, for example in decade's time, a 29 year old smoking in the street when he legally should be 30 to do so. Will it be legal to smoke or only buy for those too young? ? If the former, will the police have to stop everyone who looks like they may be a year too young? Load of nonsense this halfway house.. Either ban them or don't ban them.

He's made the fags a conscience vote. Plenty of Tory MPs either enjoy lighting up or have links to big tobacco (see Patel, P etc). If it goes through, hooray. If not, "Well, I tried".

Of all his awful posturing, that bit about “patients want to know when a hospital is talking about a man or woman” is 100% bullshit.

Patients want, and deserve, to be respected. And if you can’t even be bothered to write in an inclusive way (which is easy to do), they’ll assume you don’t respect them, and they won’t trust you. And if they don’t trust you they don’t come to you for care. And then they get sick and then they die.

Sunak either knows this and doesn’t care or chooses to be ignorant. Neither explanation is acceptable. Either will lead to people literally dying. The fact they may be from minority groups is irrelevant.

I see what you did there.

You’ll have to let me know then, as it was unintentional! 😁

You used very non-gender specific language, in an absolutely natural and flowing manner. Just showing how easy it is.

This is the most hastily cobbeld together crap I've ever seen. The plan also includes building tram extensions in Nottingham and Manchester that already exist. And one of the Southern bits mistakenly refers to two new stations (already funded) as a "new line".

Long term planning?!

Hugh Merriman has just been schooled by Krishnan Guru-Murthy on Channel 4 news. Krishnan asked him how much of the £36bn allocated to transport improvements would be spent on the A1. Surprise, surprise the government has so far worked out how much needs to be spent on the A1. The same seems to apply to all the projects that Rishi has committed to. The announcement was clearly meant to be all things to all people.

During his speech Rishi referred to the Leeds tram system, the mayor of West Yorkshire has been quick to point out that the tram system will cover many other parts of West Yorkshire not just Leeds. So much Rishi's claim that he is a details man.
