What perks does a Companion of Honour bestow and why is Dame Shirley Bassey having an upgrade to one? Probably last saw her perform on the Mike Yarwood Show 45 years ago.
Apparently Tebbit is a Companion of Honour.

If it ever was worthwhile having a system of bestowing “honour” on people to reward prominence and public service, it no longer is. Under the current Johnson/Truss/Sunak iteration of the Conservative Party, it has become so debased and devalued as to be completely worthless and quite irrelevant.

If King Chaz really wants to leave his mark, he could do worse than moving to have it scrapped.

I am in favour of honours, I think recognition by the country of good deeds is fine. It is devalued though when I see backwoodsmen Tory MPs getting knighted for “political service” and Kevin Sinfield* still has not officially become Sir Kevin after all he has achieved.

Sinfield and Burrow both got a CBE, I think. But again, the hierarchy of the gongs is ridiculous when you look at the wankers that the peerages and knighthoods have been doled out to.
