Love the irony that everyone can go out apart from libertarian cranks as a result of their free choice.

Looks like JO'B is going to delve in to the "Pingdemic" phenomenon this morning.

I actually woke up thinking about this. You get "pinged" because you have potentially been exposed to the now rampant virus. The language of pinging and pingdemics seems to me to be calibrated to belittle these alerts and to demote them to the status of a pointless irritation. Best uninstall the app chaps, eh?

Imagine spending 37 billion quid on a project and then having to get your press corps to rubbish it.

Are Vaccine Passports the new culture war frontline now Trump's gone and Brexit's a crock? I don't receive FB propaganda ads from Moscow or Bannon troll factories but there's a lot of numptys and usual suspects getting into a Freeman of the Land type tizzy over a minor and temporary social inconvenience. Doubt any of these twats would spend 24 years on Robben Island to oppose this supposedly dastardly attack on their liberties.
In the Commons today Mark Harper, the former Government chief whip and leader of the Covid Recovery Group of Tory MPs, compared Mr Johnson to King Charles I, whose tenure on the throne ended when England plunged into a civil war.

Worried the use of vaccine passports could be extended, Mr Harper warned he feared MPs could be forced to show proof of vaccination before entering parliament.

In the Commons, he told Speaker Lindsay Hoyle: "Your 17th century predecessor Speaker Lenthal stood up very effectively against an over mighty executive and it didn't end well for the overnight executive." https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics ... StFnWgcPHA

Overnight executive? Wasn't that that John Le Carre thing starring Loki bloke? Or do the Express have any sub-eds at all?

I think Mark Harper should be more worried about any possible attempts to make MPs show proof of intelligence before entering parliament.

Mrs A and I did our stint in the project shop today (Wimbledon). Almost all were masked - one schoolkid wasn't and she apologised when asked to put hers on.

Better than last time!

I see this heavyweight expert is still going, presumably from his own saloon bar. Now with 183k followers

He's correct, there certainly was a problem. An out of date projection was used.

While Saturday’s press conference was led by Boris Johnson, the slide presentation was made by the Government’s chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance and England’s chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty.

The model suggesting a median death toll of 4,000 a day was from the University of Cambridge, but was already out of date by Saturday, when it suggested there could be 860 deaths. The death toll that day was 326. Other models proposed lower daily death tolls.
But look at the date- 5 November 2020. This was talking about the second lockdown. Things got much much worse, hence the need for the long and strict lockdown. Even with those lockdowns, deaths reached 1,820 in one day. How many if Mr Brooks had had his own way?

The government Covid 19 dashboard says new daily cases are under 30k.

The ZOE study says 62k.

Somebody's figures are clearly very wrong.

It's got that "why can't they both lose?" feel about it, like a Euro match between Linfield and Chelsea.

Surely Lawrence must be aware that being on the fucked up side of Dan Bloody Hodges is an indication that it's time to take a fucking breath?

That reminds me of poor old Dan on Old Mailwatch around the same time, chuntering away about "the pandemic is already over" and citing Lord Sumption against a backdrop of spiralling cases and deaths. A total inability - or reluctance - to look reality squarely in the eye.

Even a twat like Viktor Orban is capable of taking Covid seriously.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced that coronavirus vaccinations will become mandatory for healthcare workers, and children are to be vaccinated before returning to school, in a bid to boost inoculation rates.
During a radio interview with ‘Good Morning, Hungary!’ on Friday, Orban unveiled his plans to boost immunization rates in the country, including mandatory vaccines for healthcare workers.

“Already there are certain vaccines that are mandatory for people working in the healthcare sector ... we have now extended this to coronavirus,” Orban said.

Despite initial reservations, Orban said he was convinced it was the best move to make, given a looming fourth wave of coronavirus infections in Europe.

In another move to bolster immunization rates, Orban proposed that school children over 12 are to be vaccinated before the start of the school year."

That cunt Sumption boils my piss. He was on the radio the other day, doing his usual semantics about the death toll (the "with/of" argument) and saying how his 93 year old friend was saying she may only have a few years left but "she's been buried alive this last year".

Well, you've had 92 years where you weren't.

Incidentally, the Today programme had the son of the mad blonde ex-nurse on today. He condemned her and said some pretty harsh things about her mental state - basically, she's beyond help.

Well, you selfish bitch, you've had 92 years where you weren't. Twice the lifespan of my wife in fact, so fuck off.

I heard the son, and his emotions reminded me of a couple of friends who are enduring the living bereavement of a parent with dementia.
I still visit, but it's not my dad there.
