I have come to the view that what you always have to remember about Donald Trump is that everything- everything that he says or does is done with one thing in mind (and this is without exception) : will this benefit Donald J. Trump? He has lived his entire life on that basis.
His entire campaign to win re-election was motivated by it - the principal motivator for Trump was the guarantee that making it back to the White House would give him immunity from being (rightly) sent to jail. Go back to 2020, and his incitement to his supporters to violent insurrection and refusal to accept the result of a democratic election that he lost were similarly driven.
Now that he is back in The White House, it is continuing. Forcibly purchasing Greenland ? Taking “back” the Panama Canal? Canada as the 51st state of the USA? Ethnically cleansing the Gaza Strip and turning it into a middle eastern casino/ “Riviera” resort ? Forcing Ukraine to accept a “peace settlement” that concedes everything to Vladimir Putin and loses the territory that the Ukrainians have fought tooth and nail against Russian aggression ? Blatantly sucking up to a hideous Russian dictator, arguably the worst since Stalin?
“Will it benefit Donald Trump ?” is the common thread through it all. Trump still talks in terms of doing “deals”. But it’s deals that will benefit and personally enrich Donald Trump that are the ones he is really interested in. Lucrative Oil & Gas contracts in Canada and/or Greenland (“drill, baby, drill”). Immensely profitable real estate development opportunities in the Gaza “Riviera” . Rare earth mineral mining prospects in a new Russian Ukraine. Trump, or Trump’s associates and grotesquely avaricious family, could stand to benefit hugely from all of these opportunities should this Trump administration succeed in engineering any or all of these prospects. Trump thinks he can do it. The presidency gives him the chance, and the power, and you would be foolish to count on the US constitution preventing him from going on with this beyond 2029 (we may have to rely on possibly imminent mortality of this 78 year old).
It isn’t “ America First” , it’s “Trump First”. And he is doing it all in plain sight. The Jimmy Savile of this American century. He doesn't care what outrage he provokes - all that matters is the power, and the spoils for Trump personally.
Christ, it ‘s depressing.
