Is it too much to expect these people to read the Budget? Had a lot more capital investment in it. What does nationalizing water and energy cost? Where does a nationalised provider get cheap gas from that everyone else is currently not spotting? How loose does he want fiscal rules to be? What would the borrowing rate be?

One of Sikka’s ideas is “lift up the 50%”. I don’t think I’ve seen a clearer example of the fantasy world the Jez Left live in. “Help the poor” is a perfectly achievable aim and what Labour should be doing. 50% is a lot of people to help from redistribution, while also funding public services.

Of course the likes of Mogg and Hannan want to jerk off to their Victorian mercantilist fantasies but the truth is that FTAs aren't that exciting or significant economically if you already trade on WTO schedules.
This deal reduces tariffs on UK spirits and cars in exchange for removing negligible tariffs on some Indian imports in sectors that the UK doesn’t much play in. Ironically there would have been no deal if that fool Rees-Mogg had his way and unilaterally removed all tariff barriers to the UK. As the country would have no cards to bargain with.
The diplomatic signals that these series of deals the RoW is making send to Trump is however significant and hugely welcome.

Have to see what's in the deal. If it removes digital services tax, that'll be politically difficult, to say the least. Was odd for Reeves to say she might do this up front. The US (not just Trump) hates this tax.

Might be some sort of "we'll definitely buy a load of cadillacs" arrangement. That would be quite amusing. Whatever is in the deal, Ed "Mad Dog" Davey would have got a better one.
