I suppose if I use the phrase whip hand that means I'm quoting Powell as well?

I can see why she might think he "evoked" a not very well known bit of Powell (per Sunder Katwala) but I reject that it was a "quote" or "obvious", like lots of people have said. Also the context of the phrase ought to be put to here. He's making a different point, which you'd think should count for something.

Watched that last night. I will never stop being amazed at how biblically stupid Sultana is.

Her density is probably only matched by her knee-jerk right-on leftism. Brains of a cabbage.

I saw an Owen Jones quote that said Starmer had gone the "FULL Powell`". That's incredibly offensive to people who had to cope with the real Powell. I don't think even Rupert Lowe goes the FULL Powell. I haven't seen him pass on made up stories about black kids putting dog shit through the old lady's doors.

I'm not claiming "Starmer isn't Enoch Powell" gets him off the hook, mind. I think the economics of the speech were terrible, and unnecessary. Just say you think there's a limit on what infrastructure and services can cope with at the moment, and looking at house prices, lots of people would agree.

An underrated aspect of all this is the role that the exaggeration has played in helping Farage. If the speech and white paper stood on its own, do you think Farage would have just stood up in the Commons saying he "enjoyed the speech". Of course he wouldn't have done. He'd have said it showed the Prime Minister was completely out of touch, had no answer to hotels and all the rest of it.

Agreed, it's blatantly obvious that if Starmer was quoting Powell, Sultana would be able to show us the original quote - she can't because she's made it up. She's counting on people not knowing who Powell was or what he said, ok it was a long time ago. However, and this really demonstrates her ignorance, she forgets we have Google and the text of Rivers of Blood is only a click away..

If you used the phrase in a speech about BDSM role play instead of a speech about race and immigration than no. But Keir wasn't making a speech about fetish clubbing.
Don't see what's so thick about Sultana asking how we fill labour shortages in the care sector that already exist and will obviously grow under stricter immigration laws.
Farage and Tice already have some answers; encourage young birds to cheer up and have more babies and send dole claimants down the old folks home.
What's Starmer's grand plan?

Yes, there was a hotel, quite a famous one that had been the subject of a gentle BBC Wales reality TV series, though it had more recently fallen on hard times. The plan for asylum seekers, was, however abandoned by the Home Office, ostensibly on fire safety grounds, in October 2023.

Care work will be like agriculture- visas available when there's a shortage demonstrated. It's the special care work visa that's being abolished. There are apparently quite a few care workers who came under that who've been prevented as working as care workers because the system is shit (as was pointed out it would be before it was brought in). So they'll get added to the work force in the meantime, with the new system due in 2027.

I can imagine that happening if the big, seen better days hotel in Scarborough were used to house asylum seekers.

I'm quite shocked that it almost swung the election 9 months after it was ruled out though.

She wasn't doing that, though, was she? She was actually accusing Morgan McSweeney of sitting down with a copy ("a PDF?") of Enoch Powell's "Rivers of Blood" speech and picking out choice racist phrases for Starmer to use in his speech.

Total, dim-witted bollocks.

Worse than that. I don't think there's any place for her in the Labour Party now. Her suspension should be made permanent.

I'm not one for judging books by their covers (much), but anyone looking like a sex case who was perpetually bullied at school and wants now to burn the world down should be kept as far away from politics as possible.
