Apparently the fish and chips picture was actually taken in the Commons dining room but then somebody photoshopped the picture to hide the fact that it was taken in the commons. So presumably it is a meal that has been heavily subsidised by the taxpayer.

Its not a common sense meal it a meal on commons expenses.

I'm pleased to say that Paul's Plaice by Hanger Lane tube wouldn't charge that much (and it'd be absolutely delicious too), neither would the Golden Plaice in Borehamwood.

Round here a large cod and large chips is £16.

A long, long way from my "sixpence of chips" I enjoyed as a small child in the early 70s...
It looked like she was in a pub or, to quote Alan Partridge, a modest restaurant. £16 for a takeaway chippy is scandalous; round here it's usually a few shillings either side of £10.
It's not great, is it...? Mind you, given the size of the bit of fish you get - on more than one occasion it's had to come in its own wrapper. I think it's also where I live - it's seen as an affluent area so no doubt it's what the market will stand.

Lidls and Asda have plentiful vegan food offerings, the idea that non meat eating is a middle class hippy fad is as tin eared as 'metropolitan latte drinkers.' A Greggs in Ashfield district does a brisk trade on lattes (don't have any evidence of this but real life common sense experience of walking high streets tells me it's very likely to be true).

At the Citizen's Advice Bureau:

"Nowt in't cupboard? That'll be because o' them forriners. Get some pasta... Next!"
"Your flat's got black mould and the gas has run out? That'll be because o' them forriners. Here's a ticket to see Nigel. Next!"
