The pay claim should be met in full, whatever the consequences, which the council say will be a load more pay claims local councils can't afford because, get this, the Commonwealth Games.

Had he held any power at all, doubtless something would have gone wrong at some point. That would by his logic have required him to meet every pay claim.

It’s the same boast that we heard ad nauseam when Corbyn was leading the Labour Party. I grew weary of telling the bragging Corbots that membership numbers made precisely fuck all difference to what actually matters - getting elected to power and actually getting actual stuff done.
