Elmo's magic firework factory strikes again.

Moment SpaceX rocket explodes into massive fireball

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c1k87l7nre4o
A live stream has captured the moment a SpaceX Starship rocket exploded into a gigantic fireball when preparing for a flight test. The incident occurred on Wednesday night around 11pm at the Massey's Testing Center in Texas.

In a statement, the company said no injuries were caused. They said there were no hazards to the surrounding communities and asked people not to approach the area.

Bezos may be the most cowardly of the tech bros, but I’d rather take a trip in his rocket any day of the week.

I think Bezos and Branson have both flown on their rockets.

Time for Elmo to have a go.

Back when I was on Bluesky, I followed cartoonist Davey Jones. He did a great comic strip titled "Elon Musk's Amazing Voyage to Mars", which consisted of him getting into a rocket, everyone wishing him the best, then it took off and blew up and everyone went "Hooray, got rid of the twat at last!".

Musky confirms he plans to launch a new political party:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1dn04lvgpdo
The billionaire announced on his social media platform X that he had set up the America Party and billed it as a challenge to the Republican and Democratic two-party system.

However, it is unclear whether the party has been formally registered with US election authorities, and Musk has not provided details about who will lead it or what form it will take.

I thought she was a chat bot to be fair….

I’d only ever seen her tweets and they read like AI statements.

There speaks someone who knows nothing about British politics. Farage doubtless has a massive ego, but he's right that there is nobody else who can do what he does. But if you're Elon, I guess it looks like you can replace Farage with Rupert Lowe and Yaxley-Lennon.

Then again, I've noticed that he hasn't been commenting on British politics in the same way he was at the start of the year.

Now Farage is not getting Elon's money, I wonder if he minds having him big up Rupert Lowe. One reason Nixon won in 1968 was that George Wallace made Nixon look moderate. Could Rupert Lowe play the same role in 2029? Farage does, despite everything he says, have a part of him that wants to look moderate (at least by his own standards), See today where he said he won't be mass deporting women and children.

Thanks Boiler, good work.

I ought to explain that I usually do a [ Headline / Excerpt / Link ] format for news stories.
The last couple I've posted have involved fairly gruesome deaths, so I reverted to short form.
I feel out of my depth with the idea of posting trigger warnings.

We don't have an agreed netiquette for this sort of thing here.
With my splash pages, anybody following Boiler's links ought to be forewarned.

Many people don't like following 'blind' links because of security concerns: some, because they don't want to waste their time on what they'll find so prefer a taster to see if they'll follow it.

Returning to the subject, I believe Musk's fetish for flush door handles has been commented on in the past and that the absence of something to operate - either inside or outside the vehicle - in an emergency has raised concerns from safety bodies. It's not just Tesla vehicles though - a lot of motor vehicles have flush exterior door handles now (JLR vehicles, for example) but how they function in the absence of power is another matter.

For another daft method, the TVR Cerbera had no purely mechanical method of opening its doors.
