Looking at Newsnight, and I must say I don’t much like the cut of Zac Polanski’s jib.

Nor do I, but the media love anyone who sticks it to Labour from any angle (if Labour were doing Zac policies, they'd get a harder time than Zac will get) so he'll get a lot of publicity. I fear he could do a fair bit of damage.

The Scottish Greens have new leadership who have opined that the tax system in Scotland is "stacked in favour of the super rich", which is a variant on "let's get other people to pay for everything". The additional rate of income tax in Scotland is higher than in England, and is reckoned to bring in very little, if anything. So see what happens. Property taxes could be made more progressive, but again, there aren't all that many very rich people about.

I do like the idea of free bus travel though, and would love Scotland to try it.

Good news for the LibDems and, eventually, the Tories (if they ever choose to shift away from the Far Right).

He does rather strike me as a cock-sure, minor public school bullshitter. On the other hand, I wouldn't rule out being disabused of that.

Always going to win big. The others running as a pair didn’t help themselves.

Polanski will get more media coverage than they have so far, and lots of it will be either credulous “values” based or ludicrously vituperative, so I think they’ll be a massive nuisance to Labour.

I would. As I always say, it's "spend loads of money and get it all off someone else". Literally no country does that successfully.

That hasn't done Farage and Tice any harm. He does sound a bit like consumer rights champion Martin Lewis, people like him. He should try and look more like him as well by shedding the 80s gay disco hair cut.

Obviously I can't vouch for this being true, but I'm going to blithely repost it anyway. Lots of gobshites do say this stuff, so wouldn't be surprised if he had. Europe's experiencing a long period of not much growth at the moment. Seems to be less of a boom time for healthcare than a boom time for Le Pen/Farage.

Yep. Not those houses there. Not even the social homes we're arguing for can go there. This is the candidate who very much wasn't like the Lib Dems, is it?

Given these massive tracts of land ruled out for development, does Mr Polanski have any view on what a sustainable level of net migration might be?

He used to be a Lib Dem.

We'll doubtless get lots of stuff about Labour being madly anti-immigration. He ought to be asked about where the new homes are going to go.

Reducing the population sounds like a desirable ecological sustainability goal. Populist Zack could kite fly that one in Suffolk.

Wouldn't be surprised if he'd argued for that at some point. Though I suppose if he was in the Lib Dems, he might not have done.

Population reduction was a Green Party objective in the 80s but attracted ridicule that they wanted a China one child policy.

Man of the people Zack Polanski hauls play-safe Greens into the spotlight
John Crace

The new party leader is not afraid to say what he thinks, and that is pretty much anything to get attention

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... -spotlight

Dunno if Mr Crace is feeling a bit off or summat, but this isn't up to his usual comedic standard.
