BBC is broadcasting baseball. Never watched a game before despite knowing a number of baseball metaphors; slam dunk, curve ball, born on third base, home run, do you pitch or catch?
Guess I prefer American turns of phrase more than their sports.

It's got quite a following in Britain, it's more than an excuse to get pissed like some others suggest here.

Quite a fun game.
I got involved in recreational play as a Postgraduate when the USA and Japanese students who stayed behind for summer organised games.
Some field positions are very specialised, but a cricket guy could do a decent job standing in the deep and swinging and hoping at bat.

I persuaded a few to have a go at cricket, but the rules and timescales aren't beginner friendly.
