A reminder of the "populism" that Reform voters in Washington, County Durham are currently supporting.
Reform UK has announced it would give non-doms the chance to avoid some UK taxes by paying a £250,000 fee, with the proceeds going to people on the lowest incomes.
Non-domiciles (or non-doms) live in the UK but have a permanent home overseas for tax purposes.
Under Reform's plan, non-doms would pay the fee for a new Britannia Card and in return not be taxed on wealth, income or capital gains earned abroad. They would also avoid the need to pay inheritance tax.
Dan Neidle estimates the cost to the Exchequer would be about £7bn a year. But I'm sure that Farage will whack up taxes on Ascot.

Thankfully the residents of Washington, Tyne and Wear, haven't yet put Reform in power. Most of Washington falls under the control of Sunderland City Council..

Having spent a considerable number of years working in Washington, I confirm that the place sucks the life out of most people.

Seems a pretty perfect example of the con.

Give people a nice little wadge saying 'look, thanks to our policies you get £500! AMAZING EY'

Meanwhile infrastructure falls even further into disrepair, and it's all the brown ones at the GPs that make it happen.

Round here we'd have virtually no GPs if it wasn't for the "brown ones" - meanwhile the road through the town north/south is getting even worse.

I agree with the headbangers in Wisbech that the town centre is a bit of a shithole but have they been a couple of hours north to Grimsby? Plus 95 percent white English and suffering from depopulation, empty houses rotting and high unemployment. So how are immigrants responsible for provincial town centres looking like shit holes?

It's been like that the world over and for the whole of human history. Britain could remove every single foreigner and immigrant tomorrow but the lives of those people cheering will still be shit.

I recently had an interesting encounter with a bloke who works as a tyre fitter in a local garage where I sometimes pay to park when the car park at the hospital where I work is full. It was 8.30am in the morning and the place was already heaving with people waiting for cheap tyres and exhausts. "I wish I'd stuck in at school at got a proper job" he said as I handed him £2.50 to park for the day. As far as I'm concerned, tyre fitting IS a proper job, rather than mincing around in an office like me, and I admired his frankness. "No one to blame but me" was his attitude. If only everyone was so self aware.

That is a refreshingly honest view from the tyre fitter there and like you, I wish many more had that level of self-awareness. I often remind people if we compare jobs and they think they're at the bottom of the heap that we all have a contribution to make and sometimes, if it wasn't for them, I and many others couldn't do our jobs.

Stevenage Labour councillor defects to Reform UK

In the statement issued by Reform UK, [Mason] Humberstone said: "The party I joined is lost, without vision, and I no longer know who it is working for — too often it serves a metropolitan elite disconnected from the realities of the people it is meant to represent.

"Reform is the only party capable of delivering the change we need and of finally putting our nation and the British people first."

Like if he was jumping to the Lib Dems I'd say ok, but he's talking out of his arsehole.
