That sounds like Matt Goodwin attempting to decouple himself from the Big dog Johnson project.

Great work from Matt here. "Progressive activists" are more likely to support a progressive policy than the population in general.

I love how he ignored it’s still a majority over those who said it shouldn’t. And the vast majority said it should be taught to school aged children.

Goodwin must be gutted, not surprised he is picking and choosing now.

I venture what Samuel Moyn is saying there is not quite what Goodwin would want to say, surely? Moyn is saying 'America produced Trump, he is an expression of deep and long-term trends of 'killing, subjugation, and terror', whereas Goodwin is saying... what? That 'he's not a fascist so that's OK and crying about it is worse than anything', whilst Moyn is saying 'your outrage is misdirected, the problem is far greater and far bigger than Trump'.

I read one of his books before he started getting noticed on here, but I've suspected for some time that his co-author probably wrote most of it. It seems too sane for him.

Nazism is a unique form of fascism, the question you have to ask is not if Trump acts like one but what if his actions on the 6th of January by his mob had been successful.

The fact that there was a blockage on mobilising the national guard and it took other states to bus their ones in says to me he was very keen on success, and a destruction over democracy.

Goodwin is too much a fan boy of populist governments to see that, he’s gone down the rabbit hole

Is that Rob Ford? He’s an academic who wrote up findings from his research that didn’t always fit his view of the world. Goodwin’s someone who works in academia who selects facts to bend to his world view. Ironically, people who follow Matt think that’s how academia works but carried out by lefties.

As the fourth doctor once said

"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. Instead of altering their views to fit the facts, they alter the facts to fit their views...which can be very uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering."

Mass immigration? Johnson's doing as much as anyone. And Johnson's advisers are as much London media class anyone.
