Still, some of Trump's most prominent supporters were quick to attack Pope Leo, lambasting him as a possible challenge to Trump and on the perception that he will follow Pope Francis in areas like immigration.

"I mean it's kind of jaw-dropping," Trump's former chief strategist Steve Bannon told the BBC on Friday, speaking of Leo's election.

"It is shocking to me that a guy could be selected to be the Pope that had had the Twitter feed and the statements he's had against American senior politicians," said Bannon, a hard-right Trump loyalist, practising Catholic and former altar boy.
They always think that everything revolves around them, don't they. There's 1.4bn Catholics in the world, 62m in the US, and of that 62m who voted around 60% went for Trump.

Not Nazis at all

Donald Trump's administration is "actively looking at" suspending habeas corpus - the right of a person to challenge their detention in court - one of the US president's top aides has said.

Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff, told reporters on Friday that the US Constitution allowed for the legal liberty to be suspended in times of "rebellion or invasion"...

As there is no rebellion and the USA isn't being invaded, what else are we supposed to think?

The section of the US Constitution which includes the suspension of habeas corpus grants its powers to Congress and not the president

When El Presendente has the loyalty of the army and grants law enforcement the right to do as they please, what's Congress going to do about it?
I see Trump has quashed talk of him finding a way of running a third term as he doesn't intend to end his second.

This is pathetic even by Trump’s standards, what did he expect Springsteen's views about him to be?
Trump hasn't had a mega sulk at Neil Young dissing him and as he's on record as liking Young's music. Old Neil must be disappointed.

He uses "highly overrated" a lot - always to describe somebody/something he dislikes.

It's pathetic.

Not particularly surprising when you remember Springsteen threatened legal action against Reagan to stop him using Born in the USA as his presidential campaign theme song.

Pathetic but lots of people muddle artistic merit with success, including on this forum. Love him or loathe him, Springsteen is phenomenally successful, as James O'Brien would say - that's not opinion, that's just counting.

Did you see that Trump has also claimed Taylor Swift is no longer "hot" because he said he hates her?

He usually reserves 'dumb as a rock' for black politicians.

Also, he's suggesting that it's not just his opinion, but one widely shared. The "just saying" defence.

Trump didn't compose this on his own. 'atrophied' is not in his vocabulary.

I'm not convinced the Septics are that fussed on looks.
At least four of them have boinked Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Springsteen might be overrated in some quarters but he has produced works of genius and he's also for a few decades been one of the all-time great live acts.
