Newham and Tower Hamlets are keeping their directly elected mayors.

Has a corner been turned on those? Are they getting more popular? Not a particularly big fan of them at LA level but I'll go with the flow.

Khan is lower but Bailey is also lower than Goldsmith.

Frankly for all the bravado and closeness that’s been talked off since that tweet, he is still a very distant second.

London reelects Sadiq Khan for mayor

Labour’s Sadiq Khan has been reelected as London mayor following the counting of second preference votes.

Khan will serve a second term after winning a total of 1,206,034 votes, while the Conservative candidate, Shaun Bailey, came second with 977,601.

Although Khan was expected to secure a second term, Bailey has performed better than expected, closing in on Labour with 35.3% of the first preference vote while incumbent Khan got 40%.

Khan down on 97k on last time, Bailey down 16k on Goldsmith.

Much better for Bailey than expected really. The Tories didn't even really bother to back him. Plus he was not very good.

But he wasn't a Muslim in a time of unchallenged racism.
