Look at genius David Davis increasing his vote share by nearly 25 percentage points. Would have done even more if the Greens hadn't stood (before they had any MPs).

As I always say in situations like this, it reminds me of a crap chess player blaming defeat on an opponent not playing the opening properly.

Being serious for a moment: why are people so keen to see the novelty candidate win? Because if he does, that ends the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards' investigation into Farage - or, put another way, Farage 'gets off' and avoids scrutiny. The NCA investigations will remain, but they'll take years - look at Michelle Mone as an example.

It certainly wouldn't humiliate Farage and it'll leave him free to grift some more.

Lose-lose for Nigel. He's drunk too much Trump juice if the believes the will of the Clacton people is a note from his mum that lets him off all rules and laws he's transgressed. Equally preposterous is Farage's claim that he's going to set lawyers on the NCA for persecuting himself and his mate Honest George Cotterell.

If Farage loses then not even he will recover. He'll be off to America before the Count makes his acceptance speech.

He’s knocking out greatest hits in advance of the by-election. Today it’s sending foreign prisoners to El Salvador. He’s implied the cost of prisons is “colour tvs”. It isn’t. It’s security. TVs help with control a lot.

Because when he's not on his own turf he isn't that bright. He'll talk all night about the EU or stopping the boats but ask him how to tackle global migration at source or anything based on the economy beyond tax cuts and unfunded spending and his eyes glaze over.

So polling day in Clacton (this Thursday) is going to be scorchiest, roasting hot day of the year, in what might well be the scorchiest place in the UK.

Count Binface is going to need his air-conditioned bin helmet. I'm expecting a very low turnout.

Farage should win, despite Binface's best efforts, but if ever anything could be described as a pyrrhic victory, it will surely be this. Especially since the Commons Standards Committee's investigations into his dodgy finances will resume more or less immediately.

No doubt the cunt will have the brass neck to stand up at the count and claim that he has been completely vindicated of all wrong-doing, but of course he has not. In fact it's highly probable that a genuine parliamentary by-election could follow this autumn in Clacton, this time with some serious alternative candidates to Frogface and his trademark brand of toxic racism and corruption. If he is kicked out then, I will be a happy git.

Over 10k postal ballots were sent out. I wonder how they skew; has the Cult of Fargle taken on board the message about "family voting"?

Assuming a "victory", his speech will be farcical.

Usually a raised stage is erected for the candidates to stand on when the result is announced. However, one large enough for them all and strong enough to take their weight could not be found.

So instead the 34 will line up on the floor of the sports hall in alphabetical order to hear how many votes they received.

After the result only the winner will make a speech, which will last up to three minutes

30 or so shades of wingnut trying to edge their way into the speech. I can't see him looking like a Prime Minister in Waiting.

I'm looking forward to Farage winning, closely followed by the resumption of the Standards Commissioner's investigation into him.

I think I've solved the challenge of finding a stage big enough for all the candidates. Particularly apt for this circus.

Why don't they just have it on Clacton Pier?

Leys say he wins, there's a recall petition and another election. If he loses that he's gone for good, but even if he wins the allegations won't go away. In that case the run-up to the next general election will see him forever having to deal with having been effectively found guilty. Either way he's fucked.
