Republican's must realise that they are coming to a crossroad. Either they stick with Trumpism ans allow Trump to basically pick his own successor or they take back control of the party and ensure that the contest to find their next presidential candidate is completely open. Trump would clearly like to either stay on as President or pick his own successor to ensure there is somebody in the White House to pardon him if necessary.

We spent most of the Biden administration thinking the Trump dilemma would tear the Republicans apart but they re-nominated him with barely a struggle. I can see the same happening again.

And I doubt there'll be any amendments to their precious constitution to prevent a repeat of the worst excesses of the Trump era - which ain't over yet, don't forget...
