It's not scorched earth, that just destroys what is there and denies it to the enemy this year.

It's salted fields, denies the enemy their use now and long into the future.

It scorches the earth, salts the fields, and leaves shit sandwiches everywhere.

Sunak’s now trawling through copies of the Sun from the 1980s looking for populist nationalist wedge issues. Perhaps Sam Fox could lead a ‘hands off our marbles’ campaign.
A diplomatic row has broken out between the British and Greek governments over the Parthenon Sculptures, also known as the Elgin Marbles.
The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was due to meet Rishi Sunak in London, but No 10 cancelled the meeting at the last minute.
He told reporters he was "deeply disappointed by the abrupt cancellation" of the meeting. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-67549044.amp

Funny he’d do that, just as Starmer’s said he’ll do a deal.

George ‘ten jobs’ Osborne is now a big knob at the British Museum and he recently hinted he’d like to see the return of these works to Greece. Take that George, no peerage for you.

It's not quite statues of Churchill (I imagine many of the Cenotaph mob would picture them as fitting in a small drawstring bag), but it'll do for Sunk (oh I do like that) if he conjures up fears of Killmonger* looting the V&A and scurrying back to Wakanda.

*Character in the Black Panther films, m'lud.

Cameron could have probably done without this. I wonder how long he'll stick this.

Just under a year at the very latest. The centre right around Europe are glad to see him back, shows how perilous the state of politics is across the Continent.

Don't see much point in getting Cameron back to rebuild relations if you're going to have him serving shit sandwiches at the drinks party.

I really, really, do not get this. I can see absolutely no convincing argument for retaining the parthenon marbles at the British museum. Should precious historical artefacts which may have been obtained in (to be generous) dubious circumstances some years ago be returned to their country of origin if that country desires it?

Well, of course they should. Absolutely no question. Why is Sunak fucking about here ?

It’s not even as if there isn’t very clear precedent :

Johnny Foreigner can’t be trusted to look after them.

This isn’t Rosie Holt but a real minister

Unless, of course, what we are seeing are copies, and Thatcher sold off the originals years ago...

I understand the challenge but it's difficult to see which was the VAR are going to call it,

λόφος / Lófos being a: the Greek for "hill" and b: being nothing like either Parthenon or Acropolis, High Town - if you're from Luton.

I still think that the joker in question has won the internet for today.

According to Penny Pugwash (or was it that overly nourished lass who works "fucking hard"?), there is a law now precluding the return of what was clearly thieved.

As we speak, ten Drachma says Michelle Mone and Randax' lawyers are closely examining the texts of the Act.

It's the "war on woke" Abers.
Rational coves like you and I can see Sunak playing "Patreat Top Trumpz" for the "Tommeh got arrested for being Engish" dolts.

For them it's another WOKE assault on TRADITION - that tradition being the handling and sale of stolen goods.
The stock in trade of the square mile for three centuries.
Therefore a BRITTISH VALUU!!

Fact!

Government that plays up to the "send them back" lobby.

Doesn't want to send them back.
