By contrast, I know of someone trying to raise £200k to attempt to purchase and preserve the former booking office of Little Bytham station - near to where Mallard set the world speed record for a steam locomotive. So far, he has raised just £1705.

But... be a fash or have a weepy-waily story and the coins just roll in.
"We want him to have the send-off he deserves" is a common one, usually used by people who think anyone on benefits should be in the workhouse.

Its been established that if FFC is returned, and investigations etc will continue, will they continue if the Count wins?

I believe the answer to that is "no" where the Parliamentary investigations are concerned (BICBW): the NCA may have a different view on their investigation though.

Parliamentary investigations can only impose parliamentary sanctions.
So continuing would be kinda pointless.

That’s why Boris resigned - nothing says “clear your name” like running away so you can’t be held to account.

This is also particularly delicious for Farage. If he stands and wins, he is investigated (and - if Binface runs him even remotely close - discredited and permanently damaged into the bargain). If he stands and loses, he is ridiculed because he couldn’t beat Binface. If he decides not to stand now, he’s a coward because he’s scared of Binface.

Now he has been denied any legitimacy to his performance, there is no route for him to come out of this enhanced in any way.

Except in the minds of his followers.

Plenty of them praising his 'genius', and saying he's blindsided all the lefties (who now seem to include the Tories and Restore).

It's a very brave thing he's doing (brave in the Sir Humphrey sense, of course).

Win or lose, he will come out of the by-election incredibly damaged.

A man who, according to Sara Pascoe, said "I don't find comedy funny" (although we all know he is aware of Bernard Manning's work) going head-to-head with a sharp-witted, politically aware comedian? He is either going to look humourless or, even more damagingly, try to fight fire with fire with his own brand of bants.

He has also made the "brave" decision to call out the "main stream media" in his longwinded address to the nation. How many receipts have they got from the last few decades?

If you dare, have a look at Brendan O'Neill's utterly deranged take on Spiked. According to him, Farage has struck a mighty blow for the working class, democracy and popularism against "the elites". Brendan, get a fucking proper job, you absolute bellend.

But that would be true regardless. However, his followers aren’t his party, and his party is full of backstabbing, self-serving shits. They will fancy their time in the spotlight, and the opportunity to line their pockets and show off that comes with it, and they will (wrongly) assume they can be as big of a draw as he is. It’ll be a huge internal fight to oust and succeed him, and unlike Starmer the chances of him giving a dignified speech because he’s decided to step aside for the greater good are absolute zero.

This all leads to a weaker, less appealing (to their demographic) reform, a split right-wing vote as people drift back to the Tories or drift further over to Restore, and an opportunity for other parties to benefit.
