I suspect that some resistance from the "real manly man" brigade will never go away - you know the type, complain about vegan food, view recycling as giving in to the hippies, get back in school Greta, any man on public transport is a failure etc - but in all honesty fuck 'em.

They think they have the electric capacity covered.
Bigger challenges lie in charging for locations without off-street parking.
Here there needs to be an investment in kerbside charging points with payment either via credit card or the dreaded 'app' - usually the ICE defenders go "but people will trip over the extension leads going across the path".

When I used to holiday in Paris there were several charging points for electric vehicles on most every street in the 15e; these were installed as part of the Autolib' spot-hire network (which has since gone out of business) but AIUI Citroen have effectively replaced those vehicles with their new Ami VSP as part of the Free2Move scheme.

I know on one car forum I used to post on it was called "loser transport" but wasn't that sentence attributed to Saint Margaret (unless of course, she was quoting it)?

Yes, part of her justification for putting the axe to public transport.

John Kerry seems optimistic that corporations will finally start taking the lead and cease being obstructive to nation states doing what needs to be done.

Nation states are perfectly capable of being obstructive by themselves.

Have you seen the excruciating ads Dodge were running stateside?

We don't sell electric cars. We sell all American e-muscle.

Off you fuck, you fragile bastards

And yet people will still continue to disbelieve it.

I've been on this planet nearly fifty-seven years and I remember when the summers of 1975 and 1976 were considered exceptional and even then, the maxima reached were nothing like we have had. I don't recall rainfall being like it is now either.

What we see cannot be brushed away with "yebbut weather".

I await the hot takes from Messrs. Corbyn and Delingpole.

"The weather's always changed". Yes, but over centuries.

"China's worse." They're getting better.

"Er....Greta....silly girl....parents....all a big scam."

This will easily become another culture war battleground I'm afraid. When there's a new lake stretching from Taunton up to Bromsgrove, the rotten ilk of Delingpole and Rees-Mogg will sneer at climate refugees for their lack of common sense in not being wealthy enough so afford a house not on a flood plain.

48.8° today in Siracusa, Italy. It's only provisional at the moment, presumably while someone gives the measuring gear a much-needed wipe, but that is a point beyond which we humans start to gently poach from within.

Those 1 Euro houses. Still want one?

I can remember walking down Forsyth Street in Atlanta one sultry evening back in 1996 and feeling the blasts of heat coming from the air conditioning units in all the vehicles and wondering "I wonder if it'd get cooler out here if everyone just turned their aircon off?"

It felt like a feedback loop.

Paint the roof white, she'll be right mate... (a seriously suggested mitigation measure)

My jaw genuinely dropped when I heard that temperature on the car radio tonight. A taste of Death Valley here in Europe.

And we go now live to Norleans. The Standard-Issue white women of yore are in the studio and the black lads are heading for the beach. NBC and CNN are quite something.

New York makes an attempt at becoming New Atlantis.

Frightening scenes of aquatic deluge in the subway. The sort that will make me check the weather before I make any journey on the London Underground in future.

I heard earlier from a friend who had to be pulled out of her car as it drifted off. She's physically okay, and now staying with friends, but very shaken up.

I'm trying to remember which Tube station had massive flood doors (at least, that's what I assume they were) in the interconnecting tunnels between lines - I think it was Leicester Square?

I do wonder if the jet stream will bring the UK some remnants of Ida.
