Isn’t it weird that I’ve seen illusionists like Derren Brown make huge audiences all think of the same thing simultaneously, but an omnipotent being can’t pop the same name into the heads of 100-odd of the people who are apparently closest to him and interpret his will on a daily basis?

Apparently, the new guy is “deeply committed to synodality”.

Me neither.

Means collective decision making. Probably a good thing, but may play to conservative elements.

He's an Augustinian as well.

The usual MAGA idiots have already started to describe the new Pope as a 'Marxist' and 'Woke'. These so called Christians don't seem to realise that caring about the poor and the sick has traditional been part of the Christian teachings.

I'm not sure that dialectical materialism is entirely consistent with any kind of religion, let alone Catholicism, but, yeah, carry on making up new meanings for words, lads.

Canny Cardinals avoid tariffs by selecting American Pope.

Liberation theology welds catholicism to Marxist and Socialist ideals. Don't know if that's what Maga types are referring to or did the new pope just say stuff that isn't hateful.

He basically said follow Jesus rather than assume he's following you.

This is heresy in much of America.

Really good piece by Colm Toibin on Pope Frankie (“the dead pope”), the new lad Leo, reactionary Murrikan Kaffliks such as Shady Vance, and the geo-political significance of popery in general, even in the 21st century.
