Boris Johnson has demanded his cabinet comes up with a plan which could cut up to 91,000 civil service jobs to free up cash to tackle the cost of living.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61432498
How is putting tens of thousands of people on the dole going to tackle the cost of living?

If this happens you can wave bye-bye to functioning government.

It might play well with his swivel-eyed cunt fanbase (everybody knows civil servants aren't real people), but it's just another example of what intellectually sterile utter cunts Johnson and his cabinet are.

Unless he’s cutting the top people, it will add up to buggerall as well. All performance, no purpose.

For a lot of people on the mainland, not familiar with the intricacies* of Northern Irish history or politics, their view of the situation is as follows: "IRA are bad, Major/Blair sold out to a bunch of scheming Paddies, Yanks can butt out". For Johnson, "getting tough"** on NI will be enough for the philistine vote he's now actively courting, as the intelligent Tory vote starts to either migrate to the LDs/Greens, or sits on its hands waiting for Hunt or another functioning grown-up.

If violence reignites, that suits him fine. Violence is unacceptable and anyone not following him on the hard line is an appeaser, an apologist for terrorism, and so on. Again plays well with the morons and flagshaggers.

Meanwhile, with the proposed cuts to the Civil Service, the BTL comments on Mailonline seem to be divided into 3:

1. Move all the jobs up to deprived areas oop north. OK, welcome to gentrification and the bad areas of the north getting even worse.

2. Good thing plumbers/doctors/bin collectors didn't work from home in the trenches on the Somme during El Alamein etc.

3. Fire them all and get the army in.

*Or basics.

**"Getting tough" is something he does almost as often as "taking personal control", with about as much effect.

The Libertarian Dream.
Direct Government by appointed ministers.
No functioning Civil Service to oversee corruption.

I think we can all see what could possibly go wrong.
I think we can have a pretty good guess whose pockets are set to be lined.

Has he been watching Yes, Minister and thought that Hacker chap makes governing look easy?

You've got to remember that to many a Tory, their dislike of civil servants isn't just because of their desire for small government - they have an actual loathing of these people personally, so the thought of them losing their jobs and being miserable is an added bonus. The only thing that could make it even better is being able to see their them being miserable.

SpAds kiss your arse and do anything (sometimes involving kissing, and arses) to get a little further up the political ladder, and tell you, the mediocre MP, what you want to hear. They also can't complain to anyone.

Civil servants have seen your sort come and go, aren't easily impressed, and tell you that you can't do that. Especially that, and if you carry on they're calling HR/the union/the police.

It's basically more war on the clever/unimpressed.

Reading the comments at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics- ... 8#comments I'm beginning to hope that the scales are falling from people's eyes.

The sooner these cunts are erased from history the better.

But they added when people are facing rising costs, they "rightly expect their government to lead by example and run as efficiently as possible".
Strange.....because a couple of years ago they weren't arsed about public money when they were giving their mates with zero experience in production of PPE gear multi-billion pound contracts to produce PPE gear!

As someone said most savings won’t come about as it will just be early retirement and the savings that do come about under freezing will be filled in by 18-24 month contracts keep an eye on permanent.

These jobs will be low level. HMRC will probably be a robot and an IT system.

Imagine if they had any good ideas.

#1 son used to work for a forensic accountancy department.
Some high powered stuff attempting to trace flows of big money around the globe to identify tac dodging and criminality.

Very high powered, and very poorly resourced considering the task in hand.
He burned out and shifted to Department of Transport.

I'd imagine forensic accountants will be among the first in Smogg's sights.

I think the civil service cuts could prove to be an own goal. The Tories have basically said that the civil service has grown by 90,000 since 2016 as a result of the challenges of Brexit. So they admitting that Brexit has cost the taxpayer in the region of £20bn just for all the extra admin. So much for the much talked about Brexit bonus.

You 'save money' by moving the salaries from wage costs to consultancy costs or programme budgets. They do it all the time.

Ha ha ha ha.

This Canzini bloke sounds like a genius. Famously, Boris Johnson doesn't spout any old bollocks to get himself out of a short term jam.

Another thing they get all the time is unforeseen spending overrun.
Usually due to shifting costs to a less scrutinised budget.
(See above).

Johnson's latest brain fart to help families deal with the cost of living crisis is to lift the ban on BOGOF deals in supermarkets. Given that it took the government so long to bring in the ban in the first place most supermarkets had done away with the deals well before the ban was actually introduced.

Most supermarkets have moved on so it is very unlikely they will bring the deals back even if the ban is lifted. Tesco's have refined their club points system to offer targeted cuts for people with club cards along with money off vouchers for people spending over £50 etc. Sainsbury's have also improved their Nectar card deals offering lots of deals that are often more attractive than the BOGOF offers.
