This is becoming all so very odd

Yes, it seems those of us who thought this unlikely to be political were wrong and we can add Widdecombe's name to David Ames and Jo Cox's on the list of recent political murders. Farage will be quaffing the Champers in The Establishment Club tonight.

There have been so many twists in the story that the CTU will very likely be stood down tomorrow. It's getting stranger by the hour - whatever your political grievance there must be dozens of more likely targets.

I'm still not buying the political motive. If somebody living in Rotherham was hellbent on taking out a Reform politician why would they drive all the way to Dartmoor when Robert Jenrick's constituency is about 30 minutes away and Lee Anderson a similar distance away.?

I'm trying to think who might have a grudge against her, and apart from gays and pro-lifers it's difficult. Someone who was born when their mother was chained to a hospital bed makes as much sense as anything.

I am still wondering if they knew each other.

Then again it wouldn’t be the first time the right wing have knocked one of their own off.

She was almost an irrelevant figure, the last time I heard about her was when that theatre cancelled one of her shows as she had muttered something vile the week before which was most weeks probably.

That’s got to be at least two years ago.

I too having been puzzling over why Widdecombe when other Reformers are a) nearer b) higher profile. I wondered what made her different and how that would make her a target of any known terrorists, obviously there's the anti-gay stuff but, as far as I'm aware, gay terrorism is not a thing - but there's a first time for everything I guess.
Alternatively, a Google search revealed that she was quite vocal on Israel/Palestine, she supported a two-state solution and condemned Hamas. She also travelled to Israel quite frequently (to visit a donkey sanctuary), Nothing remarkable from a UK politician, but unusual from Reform and certainly enough to put a target on her back in some people's eyes.

The story behind the REM song 'What's the frequency, Kenneth?' was about anchor man Dan Rather who was attacked by a paranoid schizophrenic who claimed Rather was firing rays at him through the TV set. He ended up murdering a stage hand at CBS trying to get access to Rather (who he believed was called Kenneth) to stop him firing rays at him.
A guy like that murdering Widecombe makes more sense than a politically motivated attack.

I know, it's not a great theory, but it's all I've got.
Mind you, some Gammon on Twitter's just described her as "the highest profile female politician since Thatcher"!

She wasn’t even that when she was somewhat relevant.

I was surprised when I saw that her biggest job was Employment Minister. Has sex games gone wrong been ruled out yet?
