I would say Peter is suffering a bout of depression but that's a made up condition invented by lefties.

Like most of the hard/far right, Hitchens despises our country, so given their current obsession with societal collapse, it was inevitable that he would reach this conclusion at some point. I haven't read the article, where's he suggesting we go? I'm guessing Russia, Israel, Hungary and red state USA.

He says that people should abandon Britain - but not him, because he is too old. He is 74.

Whilst that isn't really old now I suppose, recently I was given a new debit card as my previous one had been 'skimmed' somehow.
The new one has an expiry date in 2030 and every time I use it online, I do find myself thinking "will I still be around in 2030?"

Thailand is popular with Mail reading gammon pensioners. Where young ladies haven't been indoctrinated by lefty feminist ideas.

Does he really think that's the reason for his unpopularity?

I washed it through a paywall remover. It's pretty sad stuff - how he ought to be regarded as superior, but nobody pays any attention these days. This about sums it up:
Snobbery has been a terrible curse in this country. And if the toning down of accents helps to get rid of snobbery, then that is a good thing.
But...
Followed by why there is something rebellious and subversive about what da kidz are saying, followed by some guff about the language of Tsarist Russia being like tinkling little bells, while under Stalin it sounded like crashing concrete blocks. Also, something about 'babytalk' Shakespeare, which seems to mean not performing it in ruffs and tights.

Washing it in bleach would have been better.

Straying into popular culture here, but why am I reminded of an episode in
The Professionals where some Army type stands up in a pub, starts singing "God Save The Queen" and then says "this is what's wrong with this country - nobody joined in", or words to that effect?

Michael 'apology accepted, Captain Needa*' Culver. Episode ends with him strapped to a bomb and with wing mirrors attached to him to spot anyone sneaking up on him
*The Empire Strikes Back, Abers. It's a film.
