Surprised nobody's mentioned Zorhan Mamdani yet. Hell of an achievement, and he's going to have all the shit everywhere thrown at him. But still, well done.

Winning as a Democrat in New York City isn't that great of an achievement, especially when you're opponents are disgraced ex-governor, disgraced current mayor, and a man wearing a red beret.

Democrats won everything, as far as I can see. Very good results in New Jersey, which has trended more Republican fairly recently. Great result in the California referendum too.

My guess is that lots of the movement against Democrats has been related to very visible homelessness and drug use in some cities, combined with relatively high taxes by US standards. The electorate naturally wonder what they're paying those taxes for. I don't know if Mamdani can do any better than the more establishment Dems on these things. He wants to get housing built, which is an improvement on some of the people who hold sway in cities.

Agree, the achievement was in coming from nowhere within the Democratic Party to do it Good luck to him, he put up with far worse shit even than Sadiq Khan.

We're going to get a lot of nonsense about how he's some sort of lesson for not just Democrats everywhere, but for Rachel Reeves too. Abigail Spanberger, by contrast, won't be any sort of lesson for anybody.

Fair enough I don't hate Mamdani, and I think he has good ideas around housing, it's just I find a lot of the coverage grating especially here's what you can learn from Mamdani.

US voters generally aren't very swingy, but there are very hopeful signs of that. And signs that polls may be underestimating Democrats- some of the generic polling is much closer than you might expect.

Having said that, Hispanic voters seem to have swung back to the Democrats. That may cause some problems for the Republican gerrymander in Texas, which may have overestimated their likely Hispanic vote share. Depends how greedy they've been. If they've set the map with lots of seats they expected to win by 5 points, then a very bad year could see the Democrats win those seats.

Black voters too seem to have gone back to Democrats. Trump got something like 24% of Black men. The candidate in Virginia got 12%, the candidate in New Jersey got 7%. Trump's performance may have been a personal thing. Black women hated Trump, and the Republicans have done even worse with them this time,

With anything like these numbers, the Republicans aren't sweeping the Mid West next time.

Does Trump know he's the kiss of death when he endorsed Adams and then Cuomo?
Possibly yes as he's not going to stop going on about Mamdani on the stump. Dems are controlled by Muslim terrorists, commies and big city clever dicks.
Mamdani is slick, though and he will have his retorts ready.

Actual (former) member of the US Senate. Lucky that Trump is so staunchly committed to free markets.

Don't worry Don, Zohran will have your back
Key Republicans don’t like that President Donald Trump is following the lead of progressive Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) when it comes to his plan to use CHIPS Act grants to take a 10% equity stake in Intel.

As we’ve told you, the idea of giving taxpayers a stake in companies that receive federal funds to boost the domestic manufacturing of microchips was originally proposed by Sanders and Warren back in 2022.

“I don’t think the federal government should be taking equity stakes in private companies,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said. “That is a mistake and a slippery slope.”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) also raised concerns over the move, “Once the government gets involved in the free market, there is no longer fierce competition that breeds excellence,” Paul said on X. https://punchbowl.news/article/tech/som ... ntel-plan/

To all those right wing pundits like Darren Grimes who are hastily declaring that New York is finished they should remember that New York survived 8 years of Republican f**k wit Rudy Giuliani.

What Dems do have is a broad church of leaders suited to their respective electorates. What does the GOP have left if Trump's popularity implodes? A puddle of slime in human form.

The Supreme Court is hearing the tariffs case. Sounds very much like Trump is going to lose this, possibly by 6-3 or more.

I was thinking the Dems across the board seem very happy this morning which is a rarity.
