Interesting hearing the news at one - as expected, Badenoch is screeching "U-turn!" whilst various farming bodies were saying "they made a mistake, have amended it and are to be commended for it".
The Tories, Lib Dems and Reform have all said they would get rid of it in full.
Little surprise there, really; Tories and Reform you'd expect, Lib Dems? Well, if there's a passing bandwagon they'll jump on it.

It's a shame because this policy was announced today as well.
https://www.theguardian.com/society/202 ... e-services
Young people leaving care in England will receive free prescriptions, and dental and eye services up to their 25th birthday, the government has said.
A pilot to trial paid internships for care leavers in the NHS and a guaranteed interview scheme for NHS roles also forms part of a package of measures announced by the Department of Health and Social Care.
A separate three-year pilot aims to improve access to mental health support for children in care, the DHSC said.
There were about 53,230 care leavers aged 17 to 21 in 2025 and a further 44,430 care leavers aged 22 to 25, although this may be an underestimate, the DHSC said.
The health and social care secretary, Wes Streeting, said: “Those in care face the toughest start in life and as a result suffer from a barrage of health inequalities, hampering their chances of going on to lead a happy, successful and fulfilling life.”
It's hard at the moment, even though the government is doing good stuff. There have, in fact been some very good announcements announced in the last few weeks, but it seems few care, and it gets overshadowed by things like this. Even with all those announcements I feel depressed, worried about next year and the election, about whether there will be a party in the 10 years. I feel I should be happier, but I don't.
I like this stuff, targeted at a group that needs it. Probably no extra votes in it though because it's "just tinkering around the edges when we need radical reform". It's quite a shock to see how many people who claim to be on the left actually don't really care about care leavers and poor children.

The extension of sick pay and free school meals gets barely any acknowledgement. There are a couple of distinct groups I think that are overlooking the credit that's due. One is social liberals who don't like the immigration and trans policies in particular. Labour didn't need to alienate these as much as they have, and I hope they adapt their approach. And the other is Jez voters for whom the real issues are the Middle East and "the system". Lots of these are supporting the Greens at the moment.

They've been against IHT from the start. So they have been consistent.
