The jury trial changes are being scrapped. All that work wasted because an unholy alliance kicked off against them. Estimated time savings of 2-10% seem worth having to me, but apparently no. Good luck with finding the “real investment that’s needed”. Perhaps we could have saved a bit of time with these reforms while we tackle everything else?

Government by Daily Telegraph
"The right to trail by jury is enshrined in Magna Carta"
"But most cases are heard in Magistrates Courts without juries"
"Hush now and look furious at the socialists destroying Britain"

The right to trial by jury is one of those things, like the church down the road, that only affects a tiny minority of the population. You could live a dozen lives and never be called for jury service, live a hundred without standing trial before your peers. I doubt one in a thousand Christians will worship this Sunday (and none of them will be Steven Yaxley-Lennon or Paul Golding). But the merest suggestion of either being scrapped and it's all a cultural Marxist Fabian woke plot that must be challenged.

So how are we going to clear the court backlog now?

That story isn't on the front pages at the moment so who cares?
