I'm left wondering why the streams weren't being passed through an EVS* with about five minutes' delay or so in case this sort of thing occurred, so it could be bypassed?

*A brand of rather excellent multi-channel disk recorders that could do this (and much more) with ease, m'lud.

Sometime last week I clocked his name on a list of acts appearing and, without clicking the link, assumed he was a Bob Dylan tribute act.
In my defence The Bootleg Beatles were on the list, so it didn't seem unreasonable.

In that field on Saturday, it felt to me that the BBC had spent so much energy on how it would deal with Kneecap at Glastonbury, that it had missed Bob Vylan's potential to cause it problems. Sometimes, when you are focused on one potential controversy, another one arrives to bite you.

It could not have known exactly what Bob Vylan would say or do on stage. There are questions whether due diligence was done in the run up. I'm told it was. It's the BBC's reaction as the set unfolded, and the perception it was too slow to act, that is a bigger problem.

I've covered quite a lot of BBC 'scandals' in my time as media editor at BBC News and as I look at the headlines across the media, and the bashing the BBC is getting, I keep in mind that stories about the BBC are often used by other media organisations as a stick to hit the corporation. And sometimes, there are other corporate interests at play for those who want to see a weaker BBC for their own benefit.

While this "controversy" rages, I shall sing along to "Rawlplugs Of Yesteryear" instead

Of the substantiated claims, some related to other inappropriate language, being in a state of undress, and one case of unwanted physical contact.

The report substantiated:

- Twelve claims he made inappropriate jokes and innuendo;

- Sixteen reports he made sexually explicit comments;

- Two allegations that he made sexualised comments to or about someone;

- Four complaints that he made culturally insensitive or racist comments;

- Three claims that he was in a state of undress;

- Seven allegations of bullying;

- One allegation of unwanted touching.

Wanted : TWO new presenters for Masterchef.

Would the show be missed if it was no longer shown? Genuine question, never watched it but wondered what others think.

The format would need a shake-up with the two main presenters gone. Get a well-known chef and big name like Stephen Fry up for it.

I wouldn't think it sells much overseas and that's where the BBC earn.

It's massively successful overseas, adapted in 50 countries and 200 territories, with a global audience of a billion.
The BBC doesn't say how much it earns for them, but it's a big chunk of their annual £2billion revenue from sales and franchises.

Fun fact: Masterchef was created by Franc Roddam who directed Quadrophenia.

Roddam came up with an idea for a show about finding the best amateur cooks from a given country, after hearing one too many "Brits can't cook" jokes while working in the USA. The rest of the format was worked out without him, but he was smart enough to get the IP rights on the idea.

I'm also just about old enough to remember it being hosted by Loyd Grossman. Indeed I remember watching one of the first Torode/Wallace episodes and thinking "Who are these two arrogant wankers, and who put them in charge?". So a recast of the presenters isn't out of the question at all.

Good point. Everyone eats. Everywhere has a cuisine. No nudity, no swearing, no violence. Sells anywhere.

Apparently the word is that the experienced chef, restaurateur, TV presenter, and former pop musician (Rip, Rig, and Panic, best friend of Neneh Cherry) Andi Oliver is the hot favourite for new host/judge on Masterchef. Makes sense. I have her as one of my Facebook friends and she is as sound as a pound.

There's still a big call to make on the series that's already in the can. A number of contestants, particularly the ones that made it to the later stages, have got a lot invested in it. It's not going going to be fair on them to leave it on the shelf. I there's a posh one amongst them with contacts in the media, I can see a serious amount of whining on the way from the Mail/Telegraph/Times axis.

Must have been her I saw on a weight loss programme who bought her friend along for moral support. It was Neneh Cherry who hadn't been in the public eye for years. She's recently written a well received memoir about her childhood on the road with her jazz musician dad Don Cherry. And is guesting on a solo album of Sun Ra's Marshall Allen (out there jazz, man). Not a musical direction many former 80s pop stars take.
