And we never manage to be. They bring up the issues and offer simple solutions, we have to defend ourselves.

Reform UK Ltd could start private prosecutions but don’t forget that the CPS can take over such proceedings at any time and discontinue them.

As for the Southport so called revelations, I have seen them on X and there are multiple community notes debunking what has been said. I should also point out that even if Starmer had been involved, lawyers are not their clients and advocating for someone in court does not mean you are sympathetic to them or condone their actions

Littlejohn brought up the cab rank rule not so long ago (in relation to Starmer not prosecuting Jimmy Saville, FFS). He said that he never bought into it, and that "you can choose where to park your cab". With great legal acumen like that, you wonder why they settled for Grub Street.

Once again he is being disingenuous. Starmer as has been stated many times was not involved in the prosecution decision regarding Savile. As for the cab rank rule, he is partly right as it depends upon your specialism. If you are a barrister who deals with say commercial law you could turn down a criminal case as it is outside your area of expertise. Admittedly it is unlikely an instructing solicitor would approach you, but you could turn down the brief. If you are a criminal barrister and Mr Yaxley-Lennon needs defending then like Sasha Wass KC you are duty bound to take the case. I notice there did not seem to be buckets of odium poured on her when she appeared for him the other week. Can’t think why. I mean how could you defend that, sleep at night (continued on Page 94).

Our people deserve a fair hearing, it's the decent thing to do.

A good move would be replacing media regulators Melanie Dawes and Michael Grade with people who understand the difference between a news gathering organisation and propagandist punditry.

What you're missing there is that there is now a huge number of people getting their news from social media where lying for clicks and influence is de rigueur. The kind of people who used to mouth off to three bored punters in the corner of the Dug and Duck are now doing it to an audience of thousands and in some cases millions. And it's pretty clear that there are those that are politically neutral but are deliberately tailoring their content to grab a lucrative slice of the 'shy fash' demographic. Witness the drift to the right of that bald barrister bloke on YouTube, for example.

All of this is happening outside of the 'body politic', and it cares not for establishment norms and the rules of cricket.
