The third underperforming election pushed him over the edge then.

Watching FOX talk up a democrat would be funny.

We should know very soon whether the genuinely insane Kari Lake, the GOP candidate for Governor of Arizona (and Obama voter in '08), has managed to prevail versus her Democrat opponent Katie Hobbs. The omens don't look good for Lake, but a very narrow victory still cannot be totally ruled out.

It had one of the most conservative Democrats, Kurt Shrader, who lost a primary to a progressive. The progressive has lost the seat by about 51-49. I don't know if this is part of a wider trend, but it's a shame. Perhaps "Portland" looms over progressives running in the rest of Oregon.
On the plus side they won the neighbouring district

Apparently she is seriously considering running for Chair of the Michigan Republican Party, presumably just to make absolutely sure everything has been burnt to the ground.

Been there, Don that
With just 720 days to go before the next election, a Florida retiree made the surprise announcement that he was running for president. In a move no political pundit saw coming, avid golfer Donald J. Trump kicked things off at Mar-a-Lago, his resort and classified-documents library. Trump, famous for gold-plated lobbies and for firing people on realtity television, will be 78 in 2024. If elected, Trump would tie Joe Biden as the oldest president to take office. His cholesterol levels are unknown, but his favorite food is a charred steak with ketchup. He has stated that his qualifications for office include being a “stable genius.” Trump also served as the 45th president.

Known bullies bullying a known bully.

Forgive me if I choose to sit that one out, however superficially amusing is might become.

Definitely a case where you wish both would be mortally wounded. Still, if DeSantis launches a presidential bid of his own it'll likely be worth stocking up on the popcorn, whilst hoping the Democrats don't use it as an excuse to take their eyes off the 2024 prize. Being "not Trump" might well work again, but "not DeSantis" less likely so.

The real unknown factor here is, what do the true MAGA believers do if De Santis gets the nod? Do they refuse to vote for an election stealer? Because I am willing to bet Trump will be more than happy to extend his stolen vote narrative to Republican candidate primaries than ever countenance admitting he lost anything. I can also believe Trump would go scorched Earth and stand as an independent, knowing he’d split the GOP vote but not caring as long as he beat DeSantis.

We also have 2 years now of a super-weak GOP House majority where they’ll be at the mercy of Trump headbangers, causing huge amounts of noise but doing fuck all. Moderate Republicans will hate it. Moderate republican voters and the wider electorate even moreso. So if Trump gets the nod, everyone will have had a multi-year reminder of the awfulness and ineptitude of his administration before polling day.

While Biden and the Dems may have a few awkward things come their way from the house, it’s not going to be anywhere near as awkward as the potential GOP implosion. And we’ve seen exactly what that leads to with the Tories here. I’m sure the dems would have liked to hold the house, but in some ways this may even work out better.

Two years of this drivel to come. That is, if the GOP retain their wafer-thin majority in the lower house - which is far from guaranteed in the current climate.

As in Hunter Biden owned a laptop.

It's Schrödinger's laptop that's the problem.

At this stage, it doesn't matter a shite what's actually on the laptop, or who actually owned it. They're so frotted up that even if there's nothing on there but Minesweeper it'll merely serve as "proof" that the deep state is too corrupt to investigate it properly.

I actually think it's probably fair enough to investigate Hunter Biden, even without believing the "10% for the big guy" stuff. He caused embarrassment by making (extremely good) money out of an area where his father had policy responsibility. Biden himself didn't do anything controversial or without a lot of bipartisan support, as far as I know, but it looks very much like Hunter himself may have traded on access to him. This is standard Trumpy stuff, of course, but it doesn't look great whoever does it.

I'm not sure all Republicans will be up for another Whitewater/Benghazi. Like anywhere, the more competitive the district, the more the representative tends to style themselves as a bipartisan local problem solver. Very easy to look the opposite if you go do too hard on something like the laptop.

As far as any legit source says, the absolute worst Hunter Biden has done is some not too great business deals with groups of slightly questionable provenance - his ‘crime’ is he’s just a bit shit. If there was anything on the laptop genuinely worth knowing about, it would already be known because why would the people who have access to it sit on it? Which effectively reveals its sole value now is as some sort of macguffin that has the potential to reveal vast corruption. Much like Brexit and communism though, it’s true power will only be unlocked if it’s done right by true believers - but it will never be done right because there is no right way to do it and no believer true enough who can satisfy other true believers.
