And so the cuddly pastel-clad railway buff/travel presenter mask slips, to reveal once again the venal, nasty, fascist cunt.
C’est la guerre. . .
Have say, I'm a little surprised and very disappointed. I've warmed to Portillo over the years and I used to enjoy watching him and Diane Abbott on Brillo's late night show.
Yes, I was taken in to an extent as well, believing he’d perhaps seen the error of his old ways and almost become human. But it’s fairly clear, more than ever now, that he never stopped being a Tory cunt.

He's variable, but he's very smart. I was amazed to see he was one of Hugo Young's regular sources, with much better arguments than you'd have expected from his public persona. I'd be surprised if he couldn't have done a fair bit better than GB News.

At this stage kGB News' role is to provide an outlet either for the fringe that most reputable outelts won't touch (the large majority) or for some otherwise familiar heads that have been let go elsewhere, looking for a payday (a minority), all funded under a very shady source of wingnut welfare that isn't designed itself to be profitable, but to be noticed.
They have somewhat turned a few things around effectively seeing off TalkTV as a competitor and are now boasting about having higher "prime time" viewing figures than Sky News* but at the expense of becoming a safe space/bubble for people like your fuckwit of an uncle that you have on ignore on Facebook** that only wants to have what they believe reinforced yet claims everyone else is a "sheep" or "woke" and that they're a "critical thinker" who can think for themselves.
* Not really that much of a claim to make - "prime time" for rolling news channels is outside of major news breaks in the mornings and late afternoon/early evenings before most such viewers switch over to entertainment led-channels. Publically available BARB show ratings aren't as openly available as they once were, but given that Sky news never really had any of its programmes after 7pm on a weekday night make its weekly top ten programme viweing figures, while the majority of GBeebies top 10's were programmes post 7pm on weekday nights in the last publically available figures, it shows how they can spin things to make themselves look better than they really are. The vast majority of rolling-news channel viewers are going to either the BBC or Sky for their digest, they don't take GBeebies seriously. It's also worth wondering how much GBeebies managed to gain in audience numbers when RT was banned from UK broadcasting platforms - skewing further down the hard-right comspiracy hole would have almost certainly soaked some of them up. How much they can potentially gain prior to the next General Election is another question - indeed, it'll be worth watching their behaviour when Purdah is eventually called.

I'm confused as to when the moment of 'oh, so you are a bunch of conspiracist fuckwits after all, just as everyone predicted' will strike, and the morons who gulp this shit up oh wait a second I see the problem.

Have they got out into the provinces yet to report the news outside the metropolitan bubble? Fergal Sharkey seems very capable of doing this and he’s campaigning pop singer who doesn’t claim to be a journalist.

Useful summary of the various brands of crap GBNews is pushing.
But the watchdog can't catch everything: it is complaints-based, and as most viewers in the GB News echo chamber are unlikely to take issue with the content, much of its output goes unmonitored.

On the Dan Wootton show tonight Kelvin MacKenzie is going to offer a defence of the British press. I'm sure Dan will be asking some really probing questions.

I don't give a shit about any of the royals, I just want to see the tabloids and the cunts who write for them get their comeuppance. Apparently Harry's name checks Wootton as a particularly notable cunt.

On freeloaders then.
GB News quy doesn't so much fall into Sam Freedman's trap as do as climb on to top board and do a double somesault into it.

Those pensioners lived through (Unearths trove of Conservative slogans)
* 1 million unemployment under "Labour isn't working".
* The subsequent prolonged 3 million plus - which they don't like to mention.
* Generational unemployment.
* Lifelong dependency.
* Today's Mail's "Something for nothing" society.
But when the rhetoric demands, they have ALL "paid their share".
The usual demographic will continue attending Question Time, making their tired old points.
But at some point the Tories will come for their pensions to bale out the next Zahawi, Johnson or Gove vanity project.
Keep your ear defenders handy for when that happens.

In a small snippet of refreshing news, GBeebies Radio (the audio of their TV station going out on DAB radio) saw a 26% drop in listeners for Q4 2022 compared to Q3 2022, going from 415k listeners to 306k.

GB News presenter quits after channel tries to make him pay Ofcom fines
https://www.theguardian.com/media/2023/ ... fcom-fines
It looks like vaccine critic Mark Steyn will not be returning to GB News because he is not prepared to pick up the tab for the OFCOM inquiries into his claims about the vaccine,
Steyn has not been on screen for a while after suffering two heart attacks and initially the channel said he could only return if a defibrillator was installed at the studio but the company then insisted that he would have to agree to pay any fines issued by OFCOM that resulted from his claims about the safety of vaccines.
The fact that the channel has resorted to making host pay their own fines would suggest that money is now very tight at the channel.

Believe me, I'm not defending Steyn but GBNews are responsible for putting all these headbanging right-wing twats on the air in the first place so they should be on the hook for any comeback from the bile they produce.

Even for a libertarian Steyn is right to walk, don’t they have editors at Gbeebies? I’ve never heard of this before (an employee picking up the tab for a station fine).
