Upskirting anybody is illegal. She hopefully gets into trouble on this.

I doubt it. There's more chance that the law might suddenly make it permissible in specific and limited circumstances.

I mean, I can't think of anything more hateful than an organisation that provides support for women who have experienced sexual violence.

Every time I try to understand the debate it gets more confusing, and a lot more bitter.

Probably for the best.

What happens if you 'phone Rowling's sexual assault service - the one that totally isn't a hate organisation, because her lawyers say so?
If you don't fit her idea of feminine, she broadcasts you on social media.
Even a straightforward Google search could tell you that a full beard and a deep voice are totally normal signs of PCOS - but as ever, for the self-styled champion of women's rights, it's all about how pretty she thinks you are.

Quite.
This is ghoulish. Revolting.

Just a couple of points
1. Most organisations will record conversations when you ring in
2. She wasn't broadcasting the phone call.
3. This is part of a conversation; we don't know the whole context.
4. Beira's Place is still not a hate organization.

Oh yes, it's clearly an act of integrity to publicise such scenarios. None of those points relate to Rowling's 'speech act' in her tweet.

If you look at Rowling's tweet, this isn't part of a conversation she's having with someone. The fact that Amnesty International released a shoddy, biased report that didn't stand up to scrutiny. Then again, this wouldn't be the first time that Amnesty International released a shoddy report.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/ ... estionable
A leaked internal review commissioned by Amnesty International is said to have concluded there were significant shortcomings in a controversial report prepared by the rights group that accused Ukraine of illegally endangering citizens by placing armed forces in civilian areas.
The report, issued last August, prompted widespread anger in Ukraine, leading to an apology from Amnesty and a promise of a review by external experts of what went wrong. Among those who condemned the report was Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who accused Amnesty of “shift[ing] the responsibility from the aggressor to the victim”.
Leaked to the New York Times, that unpublished review has concluded that the report was “written in language that was ambiguous, imprecise and in some respects legally questionable”, according to the newspaper.
In particular, the report’s authors were criticised for language that appeared to suggest “many or most of the civilian victims of the war died as a result of Ukraine’s decision to locate its forces in the vicinity of civilians” at a time when Russian forces were deliberately targeting civilians.

Wouldn’t be the first time Rowling has engaged in a bit of unprompted bigotry either. Shall we call it a draw?

Somebody spotted this on a train on the Victoria line. We need to see more of these.

Is that going to persuade many people? While the short hand gotcha question is "can a woman have a penis?", I think for lots of people it's about wider physical characteristics of men and women post-puberty, and what the implications of that might be. If you're concerned about, to use one of the most difficult examples, trans women in women's prisons, that doesn't mean you hate trans women, nor are obsessed with crotches and toilets.

Agreed, that poster is an own-goal by the trans-community.

I can see why they might do it- trans people get talked about as perverts, so the attraction of turning that round must be considerable. Perhaps they're not thinking in terms of persuading a middle ground at the moment (does a middle ground exist?) and are more keen to rally the faithful. There's certainly something to be said for that, because there always is.

Of course, it's aimed at the faithful; it bangs on about JK Rowling, aka the bad wizard lady.

It seems to me that the other side seem to be getting more aggressive while the trans side hasn't been as visible recently. I might be wrong but perhaps they are rallying the troops ready for a new offensive.

Is being even more aggressive really the most effective way to persuade people that you're not a threat to anyone?
