Self-explanatory thread. "Woke" is everywhere. Even as the basis of Truss and Sunak's appeals to Tory members to become PM.

I began to wonder why these wankers haven't updated their campaign to become "The Campaign Against Woke" :

This random-generator nonsense is quite embarrassing. I would set a four year-old to their room for such a moronic, attention-seeking display.

If times were not so serious I’d be eating popcorn watching this shit show fall apart.

If you’ve been in despair for six years it should be a relief that a majority can now see what you see. But its not, its fucking heartbreaking that England has sunk so low.

A good day for inclusion. I wonder how the Mailites will react BTL.

Boris' sort of place.
He can't wait for a bit of tea and tiffin with the mummies.

This wasn't considered a woke issue for the 2016-19 prime minister.

2 comments on Peppa. One says get over it, the other says they'll be boycotting the cartoon pig. Guess which one is up and which is down.

Well, I'm up in arms over Bruno the brake car. Apart from the phrase "brake car" being a total nonsense in English, he's a caboose *not* a brake van.

Charlie the caboose - yes
Bruno the brake van - yes
Bruno the brake car? Oh fuck off, do.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm not a railway buff*, where has "brake car" come from? Is it an Americanism?

*I realise that makes me a bit of a freak on this forum, but we do exist.

I don't think it's ever been used before.

From the etymological point of view a 'car' is an American term for either what we would call a carriage, or for certain large freight wagons (reefer cars or box cars).

Neither are really used in the UK except on the underground which uses American terminology, for complicated reasons due to being started by Americans.

That said, I've never heard of a 'brake car', and neither has Wikipedia, so I suppose the makers of TomTank just made it up.

I read the phrase "brake car" in the BBC article about the lad who's providing the voice this morning. In over 50 years of being a dedicated trainiac I have never seen that phrase before. It certainly doesn't come from any anglophone country on this planet.

It's English Jim, but not as we know it.

Enjoyed Ben Elton’s turn on the Friday Night Live anniversary edition. He had to deny he was responsible for woke cancel culture after killing off Benny Hill; ‘No I didn’t, he got old and boring. I should know, I haven’t been on TV for 20 years and this is just a charity gig.’ Welcome back.
